  1. Thanks so much for answering! I had other questions as well... my stipend is going to be $1000 and you said you got paid on the 15th. Will they split that up and pay $500 on the 15th and 30th or is the entire amount disbursed on the 15th of every month? Do you think that even if i'm sworn in on let's say the 7th of Sep. that I'll still receive my first payment on the 15th? or maybe have to wait?
  2. Hi Chris! I won't be graduating in Dec but I just received my Final Select today and was wondering if you could give me a heads up to what's coming next. My recruiter is currently looking for someone to enlist me because I've relocated for nursing school (from New York to Vegas). What's that process like? LOTS of paperwork? is that when I'll be choosing where I'd like to be stationed or does that come after NCP is complete? How soon after this process will the funds be disbursed? Thanks in advance for your help and CONGRATS ON GRADUATING!!! Telly :)
  3. i JUST started a couple mths ago *sigh* it's an accelerated 16mth prgm tho so only 14 more mths to go! the past two months have already flown by for me so i'm sure the rest will do the same as well. i hope u enjoy ODS school! i hear it's intense but GREAT! good luck! and thanks again for responding!:)
  4. Thanks! I figured it was good news, but I didn't wanna jump the gun on my celebration LOL were u receiving a stipend while you were completing school? and did you receive a bonus? if so, how much was it and how did they disburse it to you? i know they tax it, but did they give u all at once or break it up?
  5. Hey everyone! So I applied for the NCP program for the Navy and my recruiter sent me an email congratulating me for being professionally recommended into the Navy....should i be excited? I wanna be excited! but ummmm what exactly does it mean to be "Professionally Recommended?" Does it mean i'm in??? What happens next??? Thanks for all responses! :)
  6. just wanted to revisit this post and let it be known that LOCS ARE ALLOWED! as long as they can be pull back into a ponytail/bun or worn down without touching the collar, they are fine. locs are JUST HAIR and shouldn't be a cause for disqualification.
  7. Fem i completely agree with you. they did make it seem as though there would be A LOT of reading. did they mention class schedules or hours to you? i'm lookin for apts out there now and wanted to know how far is too far, esp if we're gonna have super early classes. are u discouraged from going now or did you just want the insight to be better prepared? i'm hoping any current/past students can share their experiences so we can know if it's as tough as they make it seem...
  8. for independent students u can take out $5000 unsubsidized and $5500 subsidized. i say stay where u are too b/c it's significantly cheaper and save yourself all the hassle. In the end you'll get the same education, have to take the same NCLEX, and you'll earn the same license as ALL other nurses. You said it's been your dream to live here in NY...look at it this way: you can always work here as a nurse. Starting salaries here are much higher than most places (since cost of living is so expensive) but still...you won't be completing deferring your dream. jus my opinion...hope it helps! :) O, and I've decided not to go to NYU I'm gonna go to the school I got accepted to in Nevada. this was a tough decision for me cuz i've ALWAYS wanted to go to NYU. but i'm taking a chance and leavin NY. the other school's a pretty good school too and MUCH CHEAPER! Amen! lol
  9. I GOT IN TOO!!!!!! GOODNESS THIS IS EXCITING! HOWEVERRRR....idk if i'm gonna go because I also got accepted to this school in Nevada called Touro University and i think it'd be a great opportunity to get out of NY since I'm from here and would like to experience a new environment...
  10. o ok...so I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about not participating. what's your class schedule like? clinical schedule? do you (or any of your classmates) work while in the program? do u think working while in the program is wise? o, and what about financial aid...has that helped you out significantly or have you mostly relied on loans? Thanks A LOT for your help!
  11. this thread is EXTREMELY informative! I'm in the process now of gatherin my paperwork for the NCP, but I feel like my recruiter should be more helpful since some of these questions are not exactly straight forward. Besides the paperwork, I did have other concerns and was hoping you all could help... after goin to one of the big 3, how long do you stay there? i read that you move around about every 3 years...is that true? If so, is that mandatory, or can you just stay where you are (except deployments, which i know are mandatory) do boyfriends have priviledges? i know husbands do... but i was just wondering what perks, if any, boyfriends had when it comes to moving around and employment. i'm sure mine doesn't want to sit at home. he'll have a degree in Business pretty soon and already has a good job with a company he's been with over a year now. they have offices around the country he can transfer to incase i move around and stuff, but what if they're no openings at his job wherever i'm stationed? does the navy offer jobs since he does have a degree? sorry if that's a dumb question but it's a concern of ours. also, i start school the first week of july and i'm worried that i won't receive my first montly stipend (and 1st half of my sign on bonus) in time...how long does it generally take for funds to be dispursed? thank u all in advance for your responses!
  12. i got accepted to Touro last week! the campus seems pretty small but the faculty is super friendly! 16 months for a BSN and then only another year (split into 3 semesters) for your MSN is a pretty good deal! Like someone mentioned before...if you're looking to get your degree, start your career, and get on with your life...this is a good way to go. I haven't started the program yet (it starts in July) but if anyone has any questions about the application process I'd be happy to answer if I can! To Kara... did your class have to participate in the Intense Camp thing? I'd like to but $1500 is A LOT and idk if it's really worth it.
  13. I got the bad news in the mail today....one down...two more to go! Good luck to everyone else! :)
  14. end of May?!?!!?? geeze!!! well I guess we'll all have to be patient. thx for the advice! and congrats on your soon to be Masters!!! woo hooo! :)
  15. Hey I'm applying to their accel prgm too and I'm scheduled to take the NET this Sunday. I've been studying but still feel so unprepared! not to mention, the app is due on Feb 1 and I still haven't completed it yet. It's just a matter of puttin everything together now b/c at least I have all my recs and prereqs, but time is ticking!!!!! Was anyone's essay for Downstate really only 250 words??? That seems sooo short!
