NYU ABSN Fall 2015

Published

Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?

maybe that's a factor in why there's such a large gap in admission time. it's been mentioned in this thread that admission decisions go out any time between april and june, so I think there's some dependence on decisions of those who were accepted earlier. I personally wish that people who didn't want to go to NYU didn't apply- I've been seeing posts that some of you feel like your application was a waste and others have already committed to other schools. It's difficult for me to grasp why someone wouldn't withdraw their application or just not apply if they knew NYU wasn't an viable option. I'd really hope that anyone on this thread and in general, who has no intentions of committing to NYU because of X, Y and Z, declines their acceptance sooner rather than later. Just a mini rant...my apologies if I've offended anyone, i just know a lot of us on here want spots at NYU and are more serious about the ABSN program their than others.

OH MY GOD!

YES!

This is the SAME thing I said. My friend in the program said a lot of people apply and don't even go. But they are fully aware they won't go anyway. Her friend found out late June that she was accepted. I think the people who wait that long are on a waitlist and whoever denies they give the next person on top of the list the opportunity to come to their nursing school. and this seems to be the trend in a lot of nursing schools.

How long do they even give you to accepted the offer?

I think someone else said that accepted students have three weeks to make a decision. It's just a little frustrating, you know? Even though we technically applied for undergrad again, it's not the same process that we went through as seniors in high school. This is too serious of a program to have a 'let me just apply to see if I can get in' attitude.

In my opinion, if you truly want to go to NYU, it's better to apply and try to get in than not trying at all, especially if you meet the requirements. I mean, I don't feel super confident when comparing myself to other people on this forum, but I still applied in hopes that I do get in, because I do meet the requirements. If it ends up being a no, at least I attempted. I applied to other programs that I'd love to go to too. If NYU offers me a spot, I'll be accepting it, meaning I'd have to turn down others potential offers.

Obviously, I feel if you have no intention to go in the first place, it's a waste of everyones time. But with the $70 application fee, I imagine that there's probably not a whole lot of those people who apply just to see if they'd be accepted (though I'm sure there may be a few).

I'm sure there's a variety of reasons people pass up their spot in a program.

Just got my acceptance this morning!!!!!!!!!!!! NYU has been my first choice since last year, but was a bit nervous about their decision since my GPA is not as competitive as others. I just wanted to let you all know, that GPA is evidently not the only factor that they look at!!!!!

it's not that. i saw a few people state they wouldn't go anyway even before they got accepted because of the price and then got accepted and denied. i think people need to be aware of that before they apply. NYU even stated that on April 1st

CONGRATS! when you enter NYU your GPA resets. GPA doesn't define you. some people had 3.7's and dropped out of the program. if you want to be a nurse and you are determined you will :)

Hey guys!

im so new to this. I registered because i always read comments. I applied on feb 20th and everything was recieved. My college transcript is still unchecked. I called twice and a lady told me that everything is there. I still didnt get a decision which is so nerve wrecking. My gpa overall isnt great but i did well on my pre reqs except stats/:. I am so nervous and check my email with anticipation. Good luck to eveyone!!

Hey,

Just joined this morning but I have been following the thread for a little while now and found it very helpful. For those of you who still have unchecked transcripts on albert, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I just received an acceptance email this morning and my transcripts are still showing up unchecked on albert. Just make sure to call the office and confirm that they have received all of your things. Good luck to you all and hope you guys all hear back soon

congrats guys!! I'm so jealous that you know and aren't waiting anymore! What time did everyone get their acceptance? I am curious how late in the morning they send them until

Hey Everyone!

I've been following this forum for some time now, but haven't contributed as of yet. However, after today I felt that it's important to the forum community to share my news, stats, and journey.

I applied to NYU accelerated program at the tail end of February. My cumulative GPA was pretty low, weighing in at a measly 3.18, so I was certain I wouldn't have a chance of getting into the program. I knew my application had other things going for it in a positive way.. ie: 3.74 major GPA in psychology, neurotoxicity and neuropsychological lab/clinical research experience (but only for 9 months) lots of great working experience (I worked my way through school supporting myself), a stellar personal statement/letter of recommendation from my supervisor/colleague, and high pre-req GPA---however, I was constantly disheartened by other peoples stats because I saw that they were getting in with 3.5+ cumulative and coming from high-end reputable schools. It made me feel really bad about myself, but I knew it was worth a shot to apply. I mean, what was the worst they could say..NO? :)

Some more extra background—I went to a community college for about 6 years before transferring to San Francisco State University. I had a really rocky start to college, but toward the end of my time at CCSF and into SFSU, I kicked some major butt academically. I think that showed admissions how much I wanted it and how I progressed as a student over the course of my academic career. I briefly addressed this in my personal statement, which I think may have helped. However, I didn't go to a top 200 school and had a very messy transcript so I thought that would also work against me.

However, even with these blemishes…long story short, I received my admittance email this morning! I honestly could not be more thrilled.

Thus, I wanted to share my stats/story with all of you guys so that you can stay positive while you wait to hear back from admissions. Even if you don't make it in this round, please, please, please, remember that NYU looks at the whole package and not solely GPA. If it is your dream school, don't give up hope. Like another contributor said, it's easy to think about the things that you didn't do 100% right and harp on them until you're sick, but it is difficult to play up the things that make you a great candidate for the program. My main piece of advice is to focus on the good, and to just keep trying!

Don't hesitate to contact me on the forum or via email if you have any questions about stats or anything else. Also, I am coming from Cali and am looking for a place to live etc. etc. so fellow Fall 2015 classmates it would be great to get in touch with you too! (Will be joining the facebook page soon :cat: )

Thanks and good luck everyone!

Hello Sjojo415,

Thank you for sharing your background and info with us and congrats on your admission. You gave me tons of hope! I've been through a similar situation as yourself and am hoping NYU considers my 4+ years of working as a coordinator in a very busy ER. I've done it all there- from chest compressions to admission processing and transporting patients. I've also worked full-time while in school, so I know I can handle an accelerated program. I hope to hear good news from them soon. congrats again!

@ernessa87 you're experience is awesome. Im sure they won't overlook it and you'll hear some good news soon

Tmath,

thank you you for your kind words and encouragement! I hope to hear from them soon. Good luck to you :)
