Anyone planning to apply to NYU ABSN program for fall 2015. Since I'm in CA, there's no way I could attend the information session. What important things were mentioned at the information session?
hey everyone, congrats to all those who got in and hang in there if you're still waiting. My name is Dan and I am joining those of you who are going to NYU this fall. I am currently an NYU student taking my last 2 pre-reqs then starting the accelerated program in the fall. I will answer the general questions most of you have: will all your materials be checked off on albert? No, a lot of times they have your materials but it won't be checked off. Your best bet is to call them and ask. Second is there a specific pattern to their acceptances? No, they don't tell the people who got in always first and the people who didn't last however I will say this the pattern of when they tell people is Tuesdays and Thursdays typically from 7am - 1pm. Last semester when I applied that was the general trend of application acceptances or rejections. You guys are also upset about money aspects well I hate to break it to you but if you are tight on cash NYU is definitely not for you. If you thought 70 bucks was bad for the application fee. If you get in you are expected to pay a 500 dollar non-refundable deposit and if you want housing you must pay a 1,000 dollar non-refundable deposit. I encourage MOST of you if you want to live in NYC and not commute look somewhere off campus. My dad works for NYU and that was the only reason I got into on campus housing. Housing is given priority to: Freshman, Graduate Students, Returning Undergraduates, Transfer Undergraduates in that order so you are considered last for housing choices so look elsewhere plus most people don't have $1,000 lying around to spend on a housing deposit. Next people are asking about the nursing program in general. There are 4 nursing sequences that you must complete. The difference between the nursing school at NYU and the other schools within NYU is that for one, we do not make our schedules at all. Meaning administration handles your schedule for all 4 semester. You have no choice over your clinical locations either. Secondly we are only in class for 12 weeks instead of 15 so its going to be a ton of information and less time. So if you are a procrastinator this isn't the program for you.
Also I made a FB page a few weeks ago for the Fall 2015 cohort: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nyuabsnfall2015/
if you can't access it or have other questions regarding NYU or the program, private message me
hey danrutgers!
congrats on being accepted to the program and thank you so much for all of the information!!!! it was really helpful. i've just been accepted (on thursday april 9th around 10am) and i'm so excited!!!! i paid my deposit today and am just waiting for my nyu emil to become "active" so that i can join the facebook group!
for everyone else who is waiting to hear - i got my application in super super early in the fall, so that may have something to do with why i heard so early, but i wish you all the best of luck and i'm sure you'll all hear some good news from admissions soon!!!
I know you are all interested in everyones stats but don't concern yourself with someone else's stats. NYU looks at everything as a whole; GPA isn't the deciding factor. They actually prefer some hospital or health care experience and a decent GPA. It doesn't need to be off the chart amazing. I honestly think my 3 years working in a psych hospital looked better to them than my 3.6 gpa. Just keep your heads up and hope for the best.
thanks!!!
and no problem -
i'm currently a biobehavioral health major at penn state and will be graduating in may. i really loved this major since it was so unique in allowing us to explore all of the interdisciplinary factors of health throughout the lifespan.
GPA: 3.44 (with mostly As and a couple Bs in my prerequs)
Healthcare Experience: volunteered at a hospital for several summers, shadowed orthopedic surgeries another summer (that was awesome!), and this past summer i became a certified nurse's aid and worked at a nursing home. i am also an officer for the student red cross club at penn state.
i definitely agree that NYU looks at the applicant in his or her entirety, rather than just focus on one's GPA, since there's so much more to being a nurse than a number!

Hey guys! Can people who just got accepted for the Fall 2015 Accelerated BSN tell me where they went to undergrad?
