  1. Hey all, Did the trick, let me buy a reregistration spot, found out an hour ago I failed. The trick worked. Gutted, but going to get back on the horse and be a second time passer
  2. Just created the Facebook group for anyone who wants to join! Look up: NYU (requires @NYU.edu email to join)
  3. Thank you gilly00 for this update. I was wondering the same thing!
  4. Hey Everyone! I've been following this forum for some time now, but haven't contributed as of yet. However, after today I felt that it's important to the forum community to share my news, stats, and journey. I applied to NYU accelerated program at the tail end of February. My cumulative GPA was pretty low, weighing in at a measly 3.18, so I was certain I wouldn't have a chance of getting into the program. I knew my application had other things going for it in a positive way.. ie: 3.74 major GPA in psychology, neurotoxicity and neuropsychological lab/clinical research experience (but only for 9 months) lots of great working experience (I worked my way through school supporting myself), a stellar personal statement/letter of recommendation from my supervisor/colleague, and high pre-req GPA---however, I was constantly disheartened by other peoples stats because I saw that they were getting in with 3.5+ cumulative and coming from high-end reputable schools. It made me feel really bad about myself, but I knew it was worth a shot to apply. I mean, what was the worst they could say..NO? :) Some more extra background—I went to a community college for about 6 years before transferring to San Francisco State University. I had a really rocky start to college, but toward the end of my time at CCSF and into SFSU, I kicked some major butt academically. I think that showed admissions how much I wanted it and how I progressed as a student over the course of my academic career. I briefly addressed this in my personal statement, which I think may have helped. However, I didn't go to a top 200 school and had a very messy transcript so I thought that would also work against me. However, even with these blemishes…long story short, I received my admittance email this morning! I honestly could not be more thrilled. Thus, I wanted to share my stats/story with all of you guys so that you can stay positive while you wait to hear back from admissions. Even if you don't make it in this round, please, please, please, remember that NYU looks at the whole package and not solely GPA. If it is your dream school, don't give up hope. Like another contributor said, it's easy to think about the things that you didn't do 100% right and harp on them until you're sick, but it is difficult to play up the things that make you a great candidate for the program. My main piece of advice is to focus on the good, and to just keep trying! Don't hesitate to contact me on the forum or via email if you have any questions about stats or anything else. Also, I am coming from Cali and am looking for a place to live etc. etc. so fellow Fall 2015 classmates it would be great to get in touch with you too! (Will be joining the facebook page soon ) Thanks and good luck everyone!
