has anyone interviewed at NYP - how was it?

Specializes in Gastroenterology.

Hey hope,

I had two rounds of interviews at NYP (besides the phone interview and online assessment). For the first round I went to the HR office, completed my application, interviewed for an hour with the nurse recruiter and then went to interview with the director of the unit for another hour. It was a very long afternoon and I was pretty exhausted by the end. I wound up not getting the position, but my interview with the nurse recruiter must have gone well because she told me to contact her if I saw any positions on their website that looked interesting to me. A few weeks later I saw a great position, called her and then went to interview with that patient care director and got the job!

My number one piece of advice is to review your journal entries/care plans from clinicals so that you have examples from your clinicals of times that you made a tough decision/ gave culturally competent care/made a mistake/noticed a change in the pt's condition etc. There were a lot of these kinds of questions especially with the nurse recruiter.

Let me know if you have other questions.

ExpatHopeful: Thank you so much for your advice. I am trying very hard for this. My interview with the senior recruiter is in a few weeks. I was told I had to fill the application out there then I will interview. But I didn't know I'll have to interview with the nurse manager as well. An hour interview sounds intimidating. Were they nice? Did you interview at Cornell or Columbia? Thank you so much for your input. I really need this job. I'm a new grad and have been job hunting for a while now.

They were all really nice and not all of it was questions, they have information to give you too. I interviewed for Cornell, but I think (not 100% on this) that it's just one HR office for both campuses because they asked me whether I was interested in Cornell or Columbia.

As to whether you'll go that same day to interview with a patient care director or do that on a separate day I can't say - I think it depends on whether the patient care director of the unit you're interested in is free that day or not.

Oh and make sure you have all your info with you for the application! They need details of your work history for the last 10 years (15 years if you've worked as nurse before!) so address, supervisor name, phone number, salary, exact start and end dates, etc and then all your addresses for the last 10 years and all your school addresses and dates (including high school). They warned me about this but I didn't realize the level of detail they would want. Thank goodness there was wifi so I could look it up!

Good luck!!
