NYC CNA's

Published

It was expressed in another thread that there should be forums made for CNA's based on location. Well, here is a thread for New York City CNA's, and future CNA's from NY to post their concerns, questions, and to network.

I guess we can get this started by using introductions:

I'm from Queens, NY and I'm almost done with my CNA classes. I plan on continuing to Nursing school in the Fall of 2010 to pursue my LPN degree. Later on I will do the LPN-->RN-->BSN-->MSN.

Look forward to getting to know local medical professionals in the NYC area :redbeathe:redbeathe

I need a chill pill because I swear I am dreaming.. :nurse:

I remember this day.... seems like sooo long ago! I read and reread the NYS website... just wanted to see the words "YES YOU PASSED" but didn't! instead saw my cert # and an expiration date and it did seem like a dream!! I was jumping up and down in my apartment by myself!!! trying to catch my breath and trying to call as many people as I could too! It was a crazy day!!

I hope all of you who haven't taken the exam yet can have this same awesome crazy feeling soon!!!

Hi All,

I'm starting my classes in two weeks and lookin forward to learning I am a little concerned about the hiring climate but try to keep a positive attitude. I want to know, is the state board exam hard and any pointers will be a big help!! BTW I'm taking CNA courses at Access Careers in Kew Gardens, Queens. I'm also lookin to go for LPN t LaGuardia College any advice will be great. 

I took a Patient Care Tech course in another state and I've noticed that Kingsborough Community College's Patient Care Tech program seems to cover quite a few programs not taught in the course I took. Would it be helpful in finding hospital employment if I took those classes at Kingsborough? Do hospitals even look at that kind of thing?

Hi all, I recently registered for the CNA program at Hostos Community College starting on the 9th, and was wondering if anyone had taken this course at this college before? Thanks.

good luck to all of you. Things seem to happen in waves so I am sure it will get better (job market) If you don't mind me asking, how much does a cna make in NYC?

The hospital (NYC) I used to work for almost two yrs ago started me at 15.97. My ending pay rate was close to 17.00. Hope this helps.

I think this is the typical pay for cna in nyc. I am not sure of the nursing homes though as far starting pay , I would assume it would be around 15?

Just a little update: I completed my PCT course and I am now studying for my National Patient Care Technician exam. After the exam I am going to take a CPR course and then send my resume out (finally!). It's been a whole year you guys, Lol!

I came on here to give you all encouragement! It's freezing cold tonight so I stayed in; I'm working on my resume, etc. As I searched the internet I realized that there are over 300 Nursing Homes and about 89 Hospitals in NYC! Ladies and Gentlemen I hope for the best in the year 2010 - May you all be blessed with your hearts desires personally and professionally! Here is to wishing you all a Happy Holiday and a wonderful NEW YEAR!

How is everyone doing? It would be nice if we could make this a NYC Community Thread and we got to know each other on here! It's a small world..

Congratulations to you! I took my exam yesterday. I am so on edge about my results. How long does it take for the results to show online?

Greetings All...I finally took my state board exam yesterday! I'm psyched now because now comes the waiting process for my results. Could anyone tell me about how long it will take for my results to appear on the prometric website or for it to come in the mail?

Thank you in advance...

congrats serendipitywomyn!!!! :yeah:

i haven't been on this site in ages.... been very busy working!! so thought i would check in, and glad i did!

you should pm me and we can chat about leads in queens. i'm employed right now with 2 places... an ltc in college point and a children's hospital in bayside (and 2 babysitting jobs) so keeping very busy, which is very good!

i heard lij is now hiring, their freeze is over.... i know someone who just started there, and someone else who had an interview yesterday.

so good luck searching! on to the next step!

congrats again!

how are you??? :p

you are right, it's been a while !!!!! congrats on your employment as a cna/pct; how are those facilities working out for you? still there???

yes, i will pm you or vice versa. i've been busy with work as well; i'm signed with four different agencies in nyc and i'm starting a job soon at a rehab/skilled nursing facility in about 1-2 weeks as soon as my paperwork is done, :uhoh3:

everything is going well and although i've been working in home health up until now, i'm excited to make the transition to facility work. i'm sure it will be a challenge having more than one pt. however, working in hh has allowed me to perfect the skills i've learned in class 1:1. now the thing will be to work on speed for the new phase of my career being that i could potentially have 10+ pt's. i'm working 3pm-11pm so we'll see how it goes . .:clown:
