Nybon Nursing School Under Investigation

I finished my LPN-RN program from Carleen Health Institute. I took the NCLEX under New York state board and passed the exam. I'd been waiting on the license a couple of weeks and decided to call NYbon, was told the school is under review - hence they would not be issuing any licenses till the review is done. They also wouldn't give a time frame. Does anyone have any idea how long these reviews usually take or what could be done in situations like this?

Your best recourse is to contact the Florida BON regarding status of this school at your time of graduation

Florida Board of Nursing

Phone: (850) 245-4125

FAX: (850) 245-4172

From BON website:

All concerns or complaints pertaining to approved nursing education programs in Florida should be directed to the Commission for Independent Education at: www.fldoe.org/cie and select “File a Complaint”.

FL Commission for Independent Education has them listed with provisional license:

https://web02.fldoe.org/CIE/SearchSchools/SchoolSearchDetail.aspx?schoolID=5075

Hope this works out in your favor.

Yes it's true they did send letters to nurses with active licenses to voluntarily surrender their license... but for those who opted not to surrender their license they are still active and able to work. In other states like Maryland they automatically revoked their license surrender or not.

And those who don't surrey their license NYS BON will eventually revoke it and they will have disciplinary actions against license which will make it harder for them to get a new one

Did you take NCLEX for LPN or RN?

FL BON only lists Carleen Health Institute approved to grant a Practical Nurse certificate. Thusly, expect NY BON to take long time, possibly over a year to review any RN application as  Florida approval for this institute to grant RN degree is in question.   I don't see how this program can advertise ADN and BSN degree programs without Florida state approval.

They need to reimburse your tuition. If they don't you need to get a lawyer.

Why do I feel the school will declare bankruptcy (and probably create a "new school"?) Without any accrediting body there is no investigation of financial stability when new students apply. A scam preys on students who wish to achieve something with their hard work and hard earned money.  Most Floridan LPN to RN schools are just a quagmire of greedy owners.

I’m having the same issue with my endorsement. I called today 3/15/21 and was told they are under investigation by NYS and no att licenses or endorsements will be given out & they don’t know when the investigation will be done. I don’t even know what to do now.

I called New York board of nursing and the guy was like if your education is under review the process varies by person. I looked online & Carleen Health Institute isn’t on the Florida BON of approved RN programs anymore only one of their branches is listed for PN. I graduated in 2020 before they lost their approval so that’s why I was able to sit for the NCLEX according to the person I spoke to from Florida Board of Nursing. I wonder if NY has to review each applicant to see when they graduated before they endorse or issue licenses?

No I was able to sit for the NCLEX and I did receive a Florida license number. However NYS won't endorse my license.

I found this article on Washington state government website saying "The Washington State Nursing Commission has determined that graduates of the following schools do not meet minimum requirements for licensure in the state of Washington:

Name Location Date of Decision

Siena College of Health Lauderhill, FL 1/14/22

Carleen Health Institute West Palm Beach, FL 1/14/22

Carleen Health Institute II West Palm Beach, FL 1/14/22

Carleen Health Institute of South Florida West Palm Beach, FL 1/14/22

Palm Beach School of Nursing West Palm Beach, FL 1/14/22

The Washington State Nursing Commission has determined that these schools are neither Commission approved nursing education programs nor equivalent to Commission approved nursing education in Washington. As a result, graduates of these institutions do not meet minimum qualification for licensure in the state of Washington at this time.

My email is [email protected] email me because we are having the same problem & it'll be great to have someone to talk to about it.

This is ridiculous, you passed the NCLEX and there is a nursing shortage for goodness sake! During the pandemic, many students didn't meet pre-pandemic clinical requirements!! They should make an exception for you.

The Goodwill in Vegas is putting medical assistants through a 90 day training program. Medical assistants are floating for clinic RNs in some states.

Since you have not been issued a license # by NY, their is no ability to endorse to FL.  You may be able to apply for initial license in FL since educated there. Note that Ideal is listed with probationary status on FL BON Nursing Programs list.    NY may not approve a license since school on probation.  This is something AN members have warned potential students about:  not all states accept nursing education from another state if it doesn't meet their education standards.  Pearson Vue should be able to send your scores to FL BON for their consideration.

Do u happen to know anything about carleen school. Cause this is the second time they been on hold and I don't know what for

Learn to look at pass rates --those students who pass the NCLEX.. Carleen has DISMAL rates.

https://floridasnursing.gov/forms/RN-pass-rate-1q-2021.pdf   Look at pages 26 and more! To make it easier, you can just add the page number at the top.

I kinda doubt if Carleen got sick she would want one of her graduates take care of her....

Not following laws properly  orr low passing rate which causes loss of accreditation

Most of the Florida storefront Strip mall schools never even attempt accreditation. Accreditation traces where the  tuition $ goes, what $ is in reserve and do not want to see that the $$ is going into the owners pocket. Accreditors also spend a tremendous amount of time to determine that there are money reserves in the college and an adequate source coming in yearly to continue the program. Another very stringent area of an accreditor' review is the education  and achievements of the faculty. Schools need more than an RN (no additional adress) teaching and RN student. Shouldn't faculty need to be able to do research (even if it is just a literature review? do help students look to the future. Finally, we all had to show skills excellence -- how do we teach a skill of we cannot do it ourselves?>

Another BIG area is how the faculty teach...and REALLY mean teach....You can not leave floundering students to teach themselves. I read this on this side often...."I can teach my self"! Then what are you paying tuition for, fool
