Stony Brook BSN - Summer/Fall 2011 Applicants

U.S.A. New York

Published

ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Paco, you are very kind. You will make an awesome nurse!!!

Just found out I didn't get in...hopefully I will get a better answer from the 2 year. Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Paco - I'm a fairly new participant in this thread, though I admit I was lurking for some time :) I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all the support that you have offerred to everyone here. Your posts are always so encouraging and positive and it is truly refreshing to see that. I wish you the best of luck as you make your decision - as they say, life is what you make of it, and it sounds like you bring your enthusiastic energy to everything that you do. So I am sure that wherever you go, you will have a wonderful experience! Best wishes to you & everyone else here! :)

 to you both too ... don't wanna leave anyone out! It does pain me to see these "no" decisions ... would have been nice to have everyone on here go to SBU. I hope things work out positively in some other way. omw2help, I was happy to hear about your "next year" comment ... you're like my successor :) Second time's the charm, look at me! :D I will certainly pop in to your new thread when it's up! That is if you want me to ... :o

That means a freaking lot to me, I mean it! Thank you :) ... I never intended to be so attached to this thread, and to think that it has been a process and I am very happy that you and many others have found inspiration here. I try to be this way in every aspect of my life. In my current job however, it's extremely hard to be positive like this because it's a very soul-draining job (I can complain for days about it) and I know I need to be somewhere else where I can be this compassionate and get something out of it at the end of the day. This is why I feel nursing is where I need to be. I volunteer in the hospital and those hours I put in happen to be so much more fulfilling than the ones I put in for a paycheck in a non-health care job. I want my life to turn around and I am doing my darndest to make sure it does. This past weekend I finished a CNA course and I am in the process of preparing for state board testing. This way, I have something in my orificenal God forbid I am unable to attend nursing school this year (and to be able to work while in school if I can). Doing what I can to make sure this is my last year in this job. It's time to move on. Very excited about my future!

Paco69 THANK YOU VERY MUCH, GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Paco,

Thanks so much for the encouragement and support. I wish you the best in school and your future career as a nurse- I know you will be fantastic!!! Will miss your daily messages of hope.

Am I the only one on here that still hasn't heard anything?

I still haven't yet....It is so frustrating. I spoke to someone from the nursing dept who said we should hear by the end of this week. I wonder why we haven't heard a thing??I asked if that meant waitlist, and she said she doesn't know the procedure for when they notify of accepts/rejects/waitlist. I was hoping that girl that works in the building and had a doctor friend asking to find out if she was accepted in January was around this thread to let us know.

If I recall correctly, that girl wasn't accepted into the program and has not posted here since she found out. Not sure if she will come back to the thread. Last year, when I was waitlisted I got my letter @ the same time as the acceptances, so I find it odd that they would wait to send out waitlist letters so much later. I do think however that not having heard anything yet must mean something is going on.

Paco - It sounds like you are well on your way to making some amazing and meaningful changes in your life. Your current job sounds very disheartening...I always hear people say that you know when you've hit your ceiling at your job, but I know it can also be a challenge to figure out what's next and to take action. Kudos to you for maintaining a positive attitude as you transition into your new journey! Congrats on completing the CNA course and good luck on your upcoming exam. And good luck as you make your decision :) I hope everything works out...I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I say that we wish you all the best.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back! I found out that I am on the alternate list, so I will continue to await any news...

Thank you, my friend  ... I do appreciate your kind words ... nice to hear them at this dark hour in the morning especially when it's 1am and I am (wait for it) ... still working  ... and mind you, I am salaried and not paid overtime. Now you see why I can't stand my job? ... Hitting the ceiling may be an understatement, I may have literally hit the ceiling and feeling concussion symptoms. I am actually looking forward to the day when I give notice to my job, my boss will probably ask me why I am leaving -- and I will have to muster everything in my being to keep from LOL. She can't spare the 5 hours it will take to explain it. Besides, she has no clue that I am transitioning to nursing. As far as she's concerned, I am sure she thinks I am as happy as a clam. I work from home and have a territory that I manage, my boss is at a corporate office 200 miles away. I've literally had enough. I hate working from home now, it's no longer my sanctuary. I sit and watch TV and the laptop stares back at me with emails to answer. Ugh! Need to work in a hospital and leave work there. That will be true paradise in my book :D

Good to hear you're waitlisted ... I know that sounds weird to say but at least you still have some hope! Good luck!
