Hello , Everyone I'm a third semester student at Northern Virginia Community College and I know this is a bit early to be inquiring about nursing school but I just would like to get a head start on getting to know everyone interested in applying! I'm excited for the upcoming semester! i have some ice breakers to get this conversation started as well. Has anyone taken the TEAS test yet and if so how was your experience? and also do you have any remaining classes to take before applying.

So I guess the next update we get will be end of April/beginning of May?

I’m not sure if we’ll hear anything before final decision letters. 8 weeks is the exact middle of May. The only thing I remember from past years was a domicile check which was not always something they do.

Still no email or anything!! Does this mean it's a no? Or do they usually send a rejection letter?

You should be notified if your application was eligible or not.

I received my dreaded email from the MEC counselors. "Incomplete application"

SOOOO I contacted the dept and asked for specific details regarding the TEAS in writing to help me prepare for my retake. Found out they will be making some changes to the attempts and requirements. I dont want to say here until its made public and because frankly I dont believe anything anymore unless its in writing. Good Luck and Congrats to all that got in this year. I'll just be one semester behind you ? See the rest of you 2020. Don't give up! I talked to my grandmother (she's a retired nurse), she told me today that a nurse she once knew attempted the NYCLEX 12 times before passing. So I will not give up. If anyone knows a good TEAS tutor please let me know. Im thinking of getting one from the pocket Prep app.

I hate how these entrance level tests such as the TEAS/HESI determine if you will be somehow fit for the program. I am a child of immigrant parents who struggle with these exams too. I work hard and my grades are great but I can not pass these exams. Some races barely have to put in the effort and pass with flying colors.

I understand. Im just going to try my best again. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I passed the math portion with and 87 the first time and 81 the second without much effort. The reading and english is my hardest section. I needed a 76 but made a 74.5 in reading. Hopefully I just have to retake the reading and plan on taking it every 30 days until July 20th if I have to, lol. This test doesn't define my intelligence, just my gateway to a better life for my family so I cant give up yet.

Do you know when they will be announcing for spring? I guess after they finalize the fall ?

No I do not know but there is some info on the site. Pretty much most things are staying the same except the Teas specifics. I think the scores are staying but other information might change. I think by the end of the semester everything should be up on the site. But you should be ok for this round right? Didnt you make the requirements? When did you apply? I think by Friday everyone should know if their apps moved tot he Dept. I applied 3/18 and was notified today.

I have received my dreaded email as well. Application not eligible due to my high school transcripts not in "US Standard". Lol. I know somebody here pointed out that complaining is pointless and I'm sorry but this is so frustrating. They didn't mention having transcripts evaluated. Not once in these checklists and requirements list on the nursing website (also in the information session that was already taken down). It might be common knowledge to people but for some IT IS NOT. I understand that requirements are requirements but I'd accept my rejection if they have it stated on the info session and requirements list, but the requirements were vague and I think it's the school's responsibility to provide necessary information to students / prospective students.

I get your frustration but race doesn’t have anything to do with this. Plenty of people of all races have test anxiety or aren’t great test takers. Stating that you can’t do something only hinders you further. No, the entrance exams are not easy but it is a requirement for this field, just like ultimately passing the NCLEX is required to obtain your license.
