Hello , Everyone I'm a third semester student at Northern Virginia Community College and I know this is a bit early to be inquiring about nursing school but I just would like to get a head start on getting to know everyone interested in applying! I'm excited for the upcoming semester! i have some ice breakers to get this conversation started as well. Has anyone taken the TEAS test yet and if so how was your experience? and also do you have any remaining classes to take before applying.

I have received my dreaded email as well. Application not eligible due to my high school transcripts not in "US Standard". Lol. I know somebody here pointed out that complaining is pointless and I'm sorry but this is so frustrating. They didn't mention having transcripts evaluated. Not once in these checklists and requirements list on the nursing website (also in the information session that was already taken down). It might be common knowledge to people but for some IT IS NOT. I understand that requirements are requirements but I'd accept my rejection if they have it stated on the info session and requirements list, but the requirements were vague and I think it's the school's responsibility to provide necessary information to students / prospective students.

I totally get it. When I called today I made them aware of certain things and it would be great for clarity for the upcoming cycle. For instance, I have paid two years in a row for background checks for nothing because of what is stated on that checklist. Fearing if I didnt my application would not be forwarded. I was also told that I had to retake all 4 section of the TEAS from the test center. But was told today that they shouldnt not have told me this and I only needed to retake my section to increase. Needless to say that is why I asked for clarification in writing for the 2020 cycle. So, I will not be paying for a background check until I am admitted. Iwasnt even going to apply this cycle because my reading score was 1.5 point below but the MEC counselor told me to anyway. I remember a person last year getting in that was in the sam situation. Now all I can do is study for the TEAS and apply for Spring. Im ok with that now. Maybe I will take micro in the fall.

You should still apply also because with your scores you will have no problem getting in, just make sure you stay on top of the transcript evaluation. I had issues last year when it got lost at central admission.

I think the problem is there is so much info but its not in one place. Here is the info on transcript evals. Its not on the nursing page.

Wow I'm sorry about the background checks! Those aren't cheap to begin with. No, their whole system is just messed up and disorganized. I just think it's extremely unfair that students' education and career are the ones suffering because they're disorganized and they could not provide the right info. I might just do that too. I sent them an email about the evaluation not being stated in the requirements list as well as screenshots. If I don't hear back, I'm gonna call them. If they still say no it's fine. I just hope they'd take this as an opportunity to do better at doing their applications.

I could still apply for Spring but honestly I'd rather just not. I might just apply straight to BSN since I already have associates in general studies. Or might wait until my husband changes station next year (he's military) and then apply. I just hate how I pretty much wasted 2 years in NOVA trying to apply but they kept changing requirements, closing semesters, etc.

That's for NOVA in general, tho. And I've been in NOVA for 2 years, about to graduate associates in general studies and not once did they tell me to evaluate my high school transcripts. NOVA does not REQUIRE it but if the nursing program does, they should've put it on the requirements list. I called them weeks ago and all they told me when I asked why they don't inform applicants about the evaluation of transcripts is that -- "We assume that all students and applicants graduated from the US."

Oh wow now I get it smh.

Well congrats on your A.S. If I were you I would probably go for BSN as well.

Do you know if having corequisites happen to count towards their point system as well?... And if they count all TEAS attempts?

Also, did anyone notice the top of their TEAS report?? Because mine says "RETAKE 4", and I've definitely never taken the teas before. I'm not sure if that's standard or if that should concern me.

Yes I say that and was shocked! I was saying to myself this is my first time why is this 4 here?

Hey, just giving everyone a heads up - I applied evening of the 20th and I received my email this afternoon. So applicants should expect ranking to start very soon. Good luck everyone!

Do it now ! They sent you status automatically, but they just need to see that it’s in process I assume

Hi, did Nova made a big deal about not doing the background check? Did it affect your eligibility?

This wasn’t directed to me but I think if the check did affect eligibility and it wasn’t in process by the time they reviewed the app for requirements, it wouldn’t be eligible for ranking. Did you get an email saying it’s missing anything?
