NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC

Published

Hi there,

I haven't seen a thread for this yet and there has been one for just about every semester at MEC, so I decided to make one.

I'm currently studying for the TEAS and I've printed out the Fall 2018 application to work on but there are some very confusing elements (and possibly typos?) on it so I plan on asking on Monday. Since they changed nearly everything from previous years I feel like they made some mistakes (possibly).

Is anyone else a little confused? For instance, they tell you not to get a background check until notified to do so, but the complete checklist on the application they give you instructs you to initial that you've completed the background check.

Does anyone else have any questions about it?

hahahahahah.. You do not even know if cohort 2 holds more significance. I respectfully disagree that the grouping means nothing. They are doing something. Period. But if it comforts anyone to think it means nothing, all good. People will be admitted from those that will apply during this extension period, as well as from the said cohorts. But to throw it out that it means "nothing" is ludicrous. Much respect.

Don't be discouraged Rna! They reached out to you on purpose, so keep your chin up and stay positive! :) I forget if there's waiting period when re-taking the TEAS. Is it possible to re-take before the new deadline?

Yes, I think you can retake the TEAS before the deadline. Most brilliant idea ..I think she should try to study hard on English and go take the TEAS again. Worth a try.

yes I can redo the test one more time and reapply, but I don't have time I have Bio141 and Micro final and need to study. I also applied to VCU. that's why I'm taking Bio 141. VCU wont accept NAS courses.

thank you for encouraging me. I really want to get into this program. I'm not young anymore lol.

RN4mee you're right. It could very well mean something much more. At this point, I've given up trying decode their moves haha

Wow, you do have your hands full! Will your classes end before the May 8th deadline? If you have time in between, I think it's worth a shot to study up and try again. There's nothing to lose in trying one more time (except for money to sit in for the exam), but that's just my take on it.

I applied to another nursing program too, and I feel the same way. I'm ready to start the next chapter of my life! I really hope you get accepted so that we can get our nursing grind started soon!

Yes, Let us hope this is really a lack of qualified applicant thing. So far, it seems they do not want to lower criteria, but are willing to allow more people to apply. Fine. That means we may be in luck. Over the past application period, I have seen them take someone will a lower score (TEAS or GPA) all other things being equal. They really can't be understood. Let us hope for the best and if you are religious, pray hard.

I contacted the MEC today. they sent the emails to me back in April 6th but some how I didn't receive it. I think I'm gonna study again and redo the TEAS again. I hope to score above 78%. I submitted my high school evaluated transcript by hand last year. This year they told me they don't have it. and I don't have official copy handy. tomorrow I will go and see what I can do. how did you submit your high school diploma ?

I may have an idea bout that. Have the evaluating body send you an official copy. Do not open it. Take it to a counselor who then inputs it and perhaps have it scanned to your record. Before you go through all this, which involves time and money, email MEC or exam and record to confirm they do not really have the previous one you put in. You can also go see a counselor in person who would check while you wait. Sounds good?

The same thing also happened to me. I turned in both my high school and college transcripts in person. I visited MEC towards the end of the application period to make sure I have met everything they need from me, and the advisor checked their records for me. I'm glad I went, because the advisor couldn't locate my high school transcript even though I turned it in with my college transcript. I had an unopened spare with me at the time (I ordered multiple copies of all transcripts for emergencies) so I gave that to her. She stamped it and told me to email a a copy of the stamped transcript along with my application and TEAS score.

I recommend ordering another copy of your high school transcript to be sent to you. Take that copy to MEC. If they say they'll file it, ask for a photocopy of the stamped transcript so you have a copy/proof that it has been seen by MEC. If you want, order two transcripts and have both of them stamped, one for you to keep and one for them to file. Just make sure you have copies and spares of any documents you send out. You can never be too careful!

I just scanned my signed official high school transcript and submitted it with my application. Went through fine.

requesting another official copy will take time. I handed them the evaluated high school diploma sealed last year. its there problem now. I'm going in the morning to see what I should do.
