NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC

Published

Hi there,

I haven't seen a thread for this yet and there has been one for just about every semester at MEC, so I decided to make one.

I'm currently studying for the TEAS and I've printed out the Fall 2018 application to work on but there are some very confusing elements (and possibly typos?) on it so I plan on asking on Monday. Since they changed nearly everything from previous years I feel like they made some mistakes (possibly).

Is anyone else a little confused? For instance, they tell you not to get a background check until notified to do so, but the complete checklist on the application they give you instructs you to initial that you've completed the background check.

Does anyone else have any questions about it?

Just an update, they've switched the application from a mail-in submission to online submission, through e-mail.

Just submitted my application at today around 3pm. Good luck to everyone

Hi future nurses!!

I just found this thread and was so surprised to see so few posts, but hopefully we can get it going a little bit more with the deadline for the application approaching. A little about me... I graduated from JMU in December with a health science degree and a minor in chronic illness. My overall GPA is a little low, only 3.2, but my prereqs are all A's and B's so I'm hoping that helps. TEAS overall score is an 89.3% which is 98th percentile. 87.5 in english, 93.8 in math, and 89.4 for reading.

I noticed today that they extended the deadline to March 27th?? Does that mean that they are trying to get more people to apply or what?

Hope to hear from some other prospective students!! Good luck(:

Hi everyone! I have been keeping an eye on this thread for a while now! This is my 3rd time applying(i know, ugh), so I always like to find these threads. I am sure it will start getting busy now.

I have been out of state, so that was making it harder to get in I think. I have As and Bs in everything (I think a 3.2). My TEAS scores are: Reading 90.1, Math 87.5, and English 92.

Good Luck!

Hi, I just submitted my application. This is my second time applying to NVCCs program. I applied to the 2018 hybrid one that started in January and didn't get it. We'll see how this goes this time. All prereqs are A's and Bs. TEAS scores- 2 in the 90s and one in the 80s. Graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012 with a B.S. in psychology.

I didn't even notice they extended the deadline, that must be why I haven't gotten the notification from student services of minimum requirements being met yet probably. I mean I know I met them, I just want to be relieved that I didn't mess up my app in any way.

Welcome everyone

Hi mew7030,

You said you graduated from JMU. Why didn't you do the nursing program there if you dont mind me asking?

I just got into JMU and I'm trying to figure out what the best option is for me.

The program there admits students based on a point system out of 20 where whatever 90 students with the highest scores get in. They take your gpa and add it to your grades(an A is 4 points, B is 3...etc) from statistics, chemistry, and your two best biology classes(micro, Anatomy, phys). They recommend a 17/20 to be competitive and I could't quite get that and it got to the point where even students who had over a 17/20 wouldnt get in! I didn't want to be in harrisonburg for forever either so I chose to just graduate with a different degree so I could go somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend going there for nursing unless you have well over a 17 on that point scale, but if you have a high score then it might work out great for you! Good luck

Oh wow. that makes me even more nervous. I missed the NVCC deadline unfortunately. So I feel like i dont really have a choice but to go to JMU.

has anyone heard or gotten any emails from the MEC yet?

I haven't, besides the confirmation that my app was received. Nothing about the minimum requirements notification
