Hi there,
I haven't seen a thread for this yet and there has been one for just about every semester at MEC, so I decided to make one.
I'm currently studying for the TEAS and I've printed out the Fall 2018 application to work on but there are some very confusing elements (and possibly typos?) on it so I plan on asking on Monday. Since they changed nearly everything from previous years I feel like they made some mistakes (possibly).
Is anyone else a little confused? For instance, they tell you not to get a background check until notified to do so, but the complete checklist on the application they give you instructs you to initial that you've completed the background check.
Does anyone else have any questions about it?
All nursing programs are highly competitive to get into but you can always retake classes to get better grades in the prerequisites! One good thing about the jmu program is that they take the best grades in the classes if you've retaken it, rather than averaging the grades like most programs. Just keep doing whatever you need to to get where you want to be(:
Hi Everyone!
I applied for the Fall, time for me to stop lurking on this site I guess I scored in the 90's on all three sections of the TEAS and my prereq GPA is a 3.73.
I received an email that my application was received about a day after I submitted it. Since then, I haven't heard anything.
There will not be a cohort this Spring (that info can be found in this link) http://www.nvcc.edu/medical/_files/new-nursing-curriculum-information-sheet.pdf
Hi all! I applied for the Fall cohort as well. I don't know about you, but this waiting game is driving me bananas.
I scored in the 90s on all three sections too, but I'm not sure what they've defined as my pre-req GPA. Is that something I have to calculate to figure out? I believe they're using the last 12 (or was it 15?) pre-req course credits to calculate the GPA. At least that's what I can recall from my conversation with Mr. Shaw, the 1st yr nursing admin assistant.
Mr. Shaw also told me we would get our acceptance letters 3-4 weeks after the deadline, but that's quite opposite of what the Receipt of Application email stated (6-8 weeks). Apparently we will get an email during the deliberation process to notify us when our applications have been processed by Student Services and forwarded on to the Nursing division. They'll notify us if there are any discrepancies or unmet requirements too. Hopefully we don't have to wait the whole 8 weeks!
I calculated my prereq GPA (A&P1 1 and 2, ENG, SDV, PSY 230) with something like this College GPA Calculator
I am not sure if they are looking at the whole pre-req GPA, or placing more emphasis on what you got in A&P like they have in past years.
Has anyone heard how many people they plan on accepting?
Thanks blb28! Would you happen to know what they do for AP scores that allow exemption for a pre-req class? Will it just not get counted, and the GPA is calculated out 12 credit hours instead of the 15?
I haven't heard a number for acceptances yet, but the 1st year administrative assistant said that the application deadline got extended to March 27th due to a low number of applicants they received on March 20th.
Hi!! I can't remember how I calculated my GPA from the previous applications... I think they used to list it out? I have not looked this year. My scores have also improved by almost 10 points since I first applied. I saw your comment about why they extended the deadline. That would be a bummer if that was the case.... I like as few people as possible! Last year's numbers were crazy high.
