NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
MedicMomma84, I applied to NVCC and to TNCC, a VA CC located closer to VB area. I've been wanting to move for some time now, so I was ecstatic when I got in that one! We had our orientation on 5/8 so I'm finishing up getting the rest of the requirements together. HNurse25, here's my schedule! Although we have the same curriculum, I'm not quite sure if the classes will be formatted the same. At least it's something for you to look at! NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC
Hey all, Haven't posted on here in some time! I got accepted in my first choice (also a VA CC) so I've been taking care of that. I went to my orientation earlier this month, so look for those details below if you're interested! For those waiting for your letter: I got a call from the first year admin assistant yesterday to request my response to their acceptance offer. Apparently they sent me an email on 5/11, which I never received. I figured they mistyped my email address (which as occurred with them before). I never got the snail mail either... I could've known my acceptance a week and a half ago, and I could've given my spot to another applicant so much sooner if I had known then! I emailed the MEC and CC'd the first year admin assistant so that they can retrieve that email for me. So if you haven't heard from them yet, do send an email to both contacts and they'll hopefully give you what you need! For those who got accepted: Congrats! We registered for our classes during our orientation, which I believe is different for NVCC. From what I read in their acceptance letter, NVCC will go over the registration process during your orientation, but it seems like you may have to register on your own time. Regardless, I have my schedule already so let me know if you'd like me to post it on here so you could get an idea of your class schedule! The drug screening and uniform ordering is easy enough. As for immunizations, my nursing program gave us a packet to fill out and for our healthcare provider to sign. We have to get documentation for proof of immunizations. If you don't know what shots you've had, get titers done so that the lab can determine what you need and don't need. Good luck!

Keep your head up! Talk to them and see what they can do for you. That's their fault, not yours.

NVCC requires the TEAS exam, and it must be taken on campus. As RN4mee mentioned, it'd be best if you contact MEC to see if you'll have everything by the deadline. Good luck!

It's okay; you've got this! The application is to be sent to MEC by e-mail so you'll be ok. Just make sure to fill out the application and attach any necessary documents and scores to the e-mail. If you have course credits at another institution, did you send them a request to evaluate your transfer credits? That takes a few weeks for them to evaluate, so you might not be eligible if you haven't already done that. Good luck!

I was told by the 1st yr assistant administrator that they were looking for 100-150, if I remember correctly. All I know is, he told me that they didn't have enough for the March 22 deadline, so they pushed it back a week. I think he said they had less than 100 applicants initially? That one week extension probably wasn't enough, and didn't bring as many applicants as they wanted. I'm assuming they want more options. Maybe they didn't like the pool they had haha. After hearing about last year's application process, I'm interested to see what happens with this application period...

Yes girl! Apparently they still didn't have enough to choose from after the first deadline extension haha Turn in your application!

The same thing also happened to me. I turned in both my high school and college transcripts in person. I visited MEC towards the end of the application period to make sure I have met everything they need from me, and the advisor checked their records for me. I'm glad I went, because the advisor couldn't locate my high school transcript even though I turned it in with my college transcript. I had an unopened spare with me at the time (I ordered multiple copies of all transcripts for emergencies) so I gave that to her. She stamped it and told me to email a a copy of the stamped transcript along with my application and TEAS score. I recommend ordering another copy of your high school transcript to be sent to you. Take that copy to MEC. If they say they'll file it, ask for a photocopy of the stamped transcript so you have a copy/proof that it has been seen by MEC. If you want, order two transcripts and have both of them stamped, one for you to keep and one for them to file. Just make sure you have copies and spares of any documents you send out. You can never be too careful!

Wow, you do have your hands full! Will your classes end before the May 8th deadline? If you have time in between, I think it's worth a shot to study up and try again. There's nothing to lose in trying one more time (except for money to sit in for the exam), but that's just my take on it. I applied to another nursing program too, and I feel the same way. I'm ready to start the next chapter of my life! I really hope you get accepted so that we can get our nursing grind started soon!

Don't be discouraged Rna! They reached out to you on purpose, so keep your chin up and stay positive! :) I forget if there's waiting period when re-taking the TEAS. Is it possible to re-take before the new deadline?

Yeah, she definitely misinformed you. I don't think the cohort number is significant. If anything, it's probably grouped up with others who sent in their application during the same time. I would recommend that you contact Ms. Amato and cc the MEC counselor email address to inquire about your application status. In summary, the email states that the application has been moved onto the next round of reviews and that the Nursing department will be in touch to let us know if we have been offered acceptance/admission to the program.

I just received the email regarding the deadline extension. Mine says "Cohort 2" I fall that means anything. I did submit my application on the last day of the deadline, so maybe that put me in cohort 2? All I know is that this application process is taking much longer than we had hoped haha Just accept everyone already NVCC!

I haven't received any additional information regarding the application deadline... Was that e-mail sent by student services or the Nursing department? I was forwarded the email they sent me on April 12th, which I didn't receive because they typed my email down wrong with a "K" instead of an "L"... I've, of course, let them know of this mistake, and I also inquired about the new deadline extension. That really stinks though... I'm hoping that it isn't true!

So I finally received word from MEC. They told me that they sent me an email on April 12th to let me know that my application has been forwarded along, but I checked and checked through my email and I didn't receive it. Still, it's good to hear back from them. Still curious as to when they'll notify us about acceptances... Rna2739, I scored a 93.6% in Reading, 93.8% in Math, and 95.8% in English. I took the Science portion too, but NVCC is only asking for the first three that I listed. My GPA, I believe, was a 3.6. What did they tell you on your latest correspondence with them?
