NVCC / NOVA Traditional Nursing Fall 2018 - MEC

Published

Hi there,

I haven't seen a thread for this yet and there has been one for just about every semester at MEC, so I decided to make one.

I'm currently studying for the TEAS and I've printed out the Fall 2018 application to work on but there are some very confusing elements (and possibly typos?) on it so I plan on asking on Monday. Since they changed nearly everything from previous years I feel like they made some mistakes (possibly).

Is anyone else a little confused? For instance, they tell you not to get a background check until notified to do so, but the complete checklist on the application they give you instructs you to initial that you've completed the background check.

Does anyone else have any questions about it?

Wait the NVCC associates degree nursing program is now extended to May 8th?

Yes girl! Apparently they still didn't have enough to choose from after the first deadline extension haha Turn in your application!

Now, I like cheergirlbay's style.. She zoned off and went to Florida to relax.. Lol..

Yes, I agree. It does looks suspicious that a lack of applicants is the issue. But there is nothing else to point at. The method of extension also points to that fact that they are seeking more applicants. Whether it is simply to add to existing applicants or to get the best of the best is what we can not tell. It would be the most unfair thing if they take someone who applies during the extension simply because he is "more" qualified than an applicant who applied during the initial period.

I feel like everyone is getting their hopes up with this extended deadline. How can they go from having 200 to 400 applicants and never enough spots, to now not enough applicants? Has anyone been able to find out how many spots they have for the Fall? Surely they have an idea by now?

I was told by the 1st yr assistant administrator that they were looking for 100-150, if I remember correctly. All I know is, he told me that they didn't have enough for the March 22 deadline, so they pushed it back a week. I think he said they had less than 100 applicants initially? That one week extension probably wasn't enough, and didn't bring as many applicants as they wanted. I'm assuming they want more options. Maybe they didn't like the pool they had haha. After hearing about last year's application process, I'm interested to see what happens with this application period...

dang omg. will you hep me? i have no idea what i have to do and its due in seven days! I also reside in VA but go to school in SC and looking to transfer. would appreciate any help.

It's okay; you've got this! The application is to be sent to MEC by e-mail so you'll be ok. Just make sure to fill out the application and attach any necessary documents and scores to the e-mail. If you have course credits at another institution, did you send them a request to evaluate your transfer credits? That takes a few weeks for them to evaluate, so you might not be eligible if you haven't already done that. Good luck!

What you have to do? I can certainly tell you it is not taking what we tell you here. Call MEC, call a faculty staff. Send emails. Get info fast.

A may 8thbdeadline means they are looking to rake in those who are taking the last of biology of psychology 230 prerequisite. I take it that won't be a lot.. Atleast I doubt it will get to 50. Well, deadline is looming. I hope they send out decisions within two weeks of it.

Thank you so much girl! & hmm, So i've sent my transcripts to nvcc just for general admission;however, I have not taken a hesi exam.

Hi! Current student here. If I were just going to guess about why there aren't as many applicants, it's because it's an entirely new curriculum so maybe people don't want to be the first people to try out a completely different way the Nursing program is going to be set up.

Hey Girl sorry to just jump in but I thought I'd go ahead and answer you! It's actually a teas exam you need to take, not the hesi and there's still time to take it!! I think you have to take it at the mec testing center though.

NVCC requires the TEAS exam, and it must be taken on campus. As RN4mee mentioned, it'd be best if you contact MEC to see if you'll have everything by the deadline. Good luck!

Are you affirming that the problem may be about applicant shortage from what you have gathered? On your point, nobody knows how anything is set up. When you enroll in a chemistry or physics course, you as much as guess how it is set up as any course. I doubt these classes would be much different. I am sure you wouldn't scare off a course because you don't know how it is set up. Nice of you to check on us though.
