NVCC First yr students, How goes the battle?

Published

Howdy. Is it as bad as you thought? lol I hope not. I heard you guys had to give actual bed baths in lab, sweet, lol The course gets better when you start ur clinicals, then you get to make up your nursing plans, joy joy!! There are books in the library that can help you with them. Or check out half.com or ur book stores. Half.com would be cheaper, and havaing a book totally up to date isnt that important. I have "Nursing care care plans 6th ed) ISBN 9780323039543 Its a good book. if your short for cash, it is not a MUST have! check ur local libraries as well. Check ebay and search for "nursing care plans" some older books for like $5!!

As well for ur drug passage exam that you take in LAB, you will get a list of drugs you need drug cards for! Think there was a list of about 30. One can either make them up on ur own, OR buy drug cards! MEC bookstore has them or Borders! if you sign up for a Borders reward card (its free) u get weekly coupons emailed to ya, and quite often they are for 20% off!! And they have the Mosby ones and Med-Deck. i ahve the Med Deeck and i think it was only mssing one of the drugs that we had to know. During the drug passage exam, ur allowed to look at ur med cards if u forget, just like you would on the floor! At least that was the case last yr, things are always changing! Cheers

Well say something to cheer me up because I got NOTHING that I wanted. Nothing! When I hit submit I got some freakin' error about how I had to be approved for the classes I wanted - obviously incorrect. By the time I got back to try for my second choices, things had started filling up - and yeah, I ended up with the evil Ms. A. for clinicals. I'm so depressed! Well, I'll be watching on Dec 19th when payment is due . . . hopefully someone will forget to pay - worked for me with the summer class that I wanted!

LOL I see I'm not alone because I've already gotten 5 e-mails wanting to switch clinicals!

That sucks, krenee. Yes, people do get dropped. And I just had Ms. A and found she really wasn't that evil, but I know there are other stories out there about her, and either way it is really frustrating to not get what you want. :(

Well, thanks . . . if I can't get out of it I will try to go in with a good attitude . . . after all, it's only 7 weeks and soon we will be graduating! I can handle her.

Sorry it didnt work out for ya! Keep in mind their seems to be MANY students on the bubble to pass!

I wish they had a better system when it comes to picking ur classes, why not be able to pick lab, lecture and clinical separately? As it stands now, if one is full , u screwed and have to start at the beginning!

I had problems last semester registering, school didnt have my updated greencard! ouch!! Luckily I was at the school and able to fix it! Didnt get the clinical I wanted, but actually worked out better! Just keep on checking and checking, and checking! And if its durin gthe work day and ur class comes open, phone the Mrs. F (secretary)and she can make the switch for ya--as long as it is open!

Wow, you people are registering for your last semester! That is so exciting!

We are still trying to figure out how to take these nursing tests. Lol

Ya thats a constant battle! As I have stated before, read and read some more! And of course some dont do the reading and rely on the powerpoint lecture! Of course it is multiple guess, so u always have a chance, lol

Really? I'm surprised to hear that. I figured by now people would've gotten the hang of studying and passing the tests . . . huh. Yeah, I'll check every damn day and hopefully the clinical I want will open up. I was also planning on doing the online lecture this time . . . AND I didn't get lab the 1st half. Like I said - nothing I wanted! I didn't even get in the phlebotomy class but that's my fault, she said we could register early for it but I didn't.

i didnt even think of taking the phlebotomy class, hmmmmm ,lol Never heard anyone mention it to be honest! Of course I dont really pay attention in lecture, lol I was considering the online class, but my internet isnt fully reliable at times!! Things wil open up, just have to be watchful! I have gotten 3 or 4 people thier required classes because I keep checking!!

maybe not MANY student but more than 2,lol

I know a lot on the borderline, too, actually. I think there are a lot who did all right the first couple of semesters but didn't do that well, and those people are having an even harder time now.

Well there are two exams that the grade avg is fairly low. And I know on a few exams that the avg was high, a few that really bombed it! Sometimes it just comes down to reading the question too fast, as ur too confident in ur answer!!

Do you think we should try doing practice NCLEX questions before the tests or just read and read and read? What about taking notes from the book?

I mainly read and reread the required readings, all the questions can be found in the reading, not always obvious, but they are in there, lol As well don't forget to do the questions that come on the textbook CD! And do the questions at the end of each chapter! I usually have the intention of doing the Saunders NCLEX book questions or the reviews & rationales one, but usually run out of time, lol As well concentrate on the info in the "tables", "charts" and "boxes" as one prof told us, if its in a "box" its probably very good stuff to know. Every one has their own study techniques, what works for 1, may not work for u!
