Howdy. Is it as bad as you thought? lol I hope not. I heard you guys had to give actual bed baths in lab, sweet, lol The course gets better when you start ur clinicals, then you get to make up your nursing plans, joy joy!! There are books in the library that can help you with them. Or check out half.com or ur book stores. Half.com would be cheaper, and havaing a book totally up to date isnt that important. I have "Nursing care care plans 6th ed) ISBN 9780323039543 Its a good book. if your short for cash, it is not a MUST have! check ur local libraries as well. Check ebay and search for "nursing care plans" some older books for like $5!!
As well for ur drug passage exam that you take in LAB, you will get a list of drugs you need drug cards for! Think there was a list of about 30. One can either make them up on ur own, OR buy drug cards! MEC bookstore has them or Borders! if you sign up for a Borders reward card (its free) u get weekly coupons emailed to ya, and quite often they are for 20% off!! And they have the Mosby ones and Med-Deck. i ahve the Med Deeck and i think it was only mssing one of the drugs that we had to know. During the drug passage exam, ur allowed to look at ur med cards if u forget, just like you would on the floor! At least that was the case last yr, things are always changing! Cheers

Thanks Flames9!
Yea, bed bath was very relaxing. :sleep:Listening for the Korotkoff sounds while measuring blood pressure was much harder because of the noise in the classroom. Oh well. I should practice more at home. My family members will soon hide when they see me with my stethoscope. :sofahiderHa ha ha Anyway, thank you for the advice! I will start looking for these books.
Did you guys have to get into ur bathing suits for the bed baths? i think its the 4th lab where ya do rectal temp measurements, enjoy!! They dont tel ya that in lab though, as they know no one would show up! So be prepared!!
you are kidding, right?

Erm - no one is going near my behind....We will probably do the rectal temps on dummies or something right?
One pairs up with the same sex!! Not that big of deal!!
Flames, I think you are messing with our heads :) Our lab instructor said rectal temps are rarely performed on adults these days. Mostly done on babies.
I think they did rectal temp only for the last year's students because they had non-competitive admission to the nursing program. This year, after going competitive, they might think it was enough of torture.
Ya, Im just messing with ya,lol
Actually you guys are probably suffering more than us. We didn't perform bed baths on each other, we just used the mannequins. And what's these "tickets" I hear you guys have to hand in? Something about proof that you completed the assignments for lab??
Would be interesting to know if the passing grade goes up because of the competitive process.
Passed my semester drug dosage exam, so I'm relived! others are not so fortunate. Fail the rewrite and your out!! Best of luck the rest of the way. Sorry on disappointing you on the rectal temp taking, but don't worry, you will see plenty of butts in clinical, hope you don't have a great sense of smell, lol

:Dlol, good one Flames9, lol; I going into Nursing with eyes wide open. On the tickets, the way it was explained in my lab class; last year there were students who didn't do the online modules, when they came to class, they had to play catchup with students who did the assignment. When we come to lab, we are to practice what we learned from our reading. So this year, us newbies have to do the online modules, complete the post test at the end of the module and screen print the test results showing our name and score of 70 or above and hand it in as our "ticket" into lab. If we don't turn it it's a U grade for that lab day. I'd be interested to hear if other students got the same explanation.
Now about the smells, lol...does the Vicks inhaler really work? My first clinical site is the GH in Fx, what's that like?
Yes many students didnt do the modules!! Majority of time I did, as I found the videos to be useful.
The long term care near George mason??? If that's the 1, i was there 2nd rotation first semester. That whole place has its own unique smell, lol You will get good at performing AM care, taking vitals. My patient was a quadriplegic who spoke very little English. We had the same patient each week, some profs switch you up in LTC. I really respect the nurses that work their as it can be sort of a gloomy place to work as for the most part, patients are not getting any better.
