Shortage Time From UK-USA

  1. Thought I would start a new thread. I want to know what is the shortest time that any RN has taken to emigrate from UK to the USA? And there are a few of us on here who are starting off or who are on the long road and some nearing the end, and it would be nice to get an average length of time.
For the record most of you know I am going via an agency (cause I didnt find this web site til after I took nclex)

    I joined the agency 1st August 2004.

    I took my NCLEX 17th january 2005,

Visa screen approved end April 2005

    Medical 29th October

Interview US embassy 16th November 2005

Arrived in US 1st Dec 2005

My papers were filed for visa screen and green card last day of January 2005.

It would also help others who are following in our footsteps

It can be done in about one year, IF you do it on your own, and not thru an agency. Or if it is an agency that will submit everything for you in a timely fashion, not one piece at a time. Also, depends on which visa center that your documents are being processed out of, with Vermont being the quickest..........

I started my process with the aid of a recruiter in Aug 2003 and filed with CGFNS, just didn't realise how slow they can be

due to previously taken the NCLEX and failed was able to sit NCLEX without waiting for CGFNS CES report, so sat march 04 and passed otherwise wouldn't have been able to sit NCLEX til Sept 2004

documents filed with USCIS 24 oct 2004 and according to website processing up to 18 oct so keeping fingers crossed wont be long now, then got to wait for more paperwork and then interview

    So waiting very patiently.............. NOT

I signed with OGP in october 2002, took the n-clex in june 2003.....took a while as vermont returned my transcripts due to the nursing school filling them in incorrectly....got phase one approval in january 2004, embassy interview in june 2004. and left the uk on july 1st. I am now very happily half-way through my 18 months assignment. my travel colleagues from other parts of the world all say that it takes them 18 months to 2 years. all the waiting seems like a long time ago.

    Hi,
I joined OGP February 2004, passed NCLEX August 2004.
    Phase 1 approval December 2004.
Currently waiting for embassy interview. Have been given provisional date of July for travel to USA. I am going to California.
Hi to cariad, good to see you are still enjoying your placement.

    Hi

This - 'took a while as vermont returned my transcripts due to the nursing school filling them in incorrectly..' - has happened to me also!!!! I am just waiting for my letter from cgfns to tell me this, I have allready been in touch with the transcript people and they have agreed that they have missed off stuff and have sent my updated transcripts to cgfns. I dont know how much it will mess things up?

I filled my visa screen and application for the NY BON in Feb this year - they did have everything but this may slow things down a bit - they have all the other info they need otherwise. I think I am the baby of the bunch here :chuckle

Cariad - I think I remember you saying your daughter was 17 - Did she have any problems ie is she in the middle of her A levels? My daughter will probably be her age and it is my main concern as far as the kids are concerned. :uhoh21:

I started the process independently in November 2004.
My CES file from CGFNS was completed in February 2005.
Got ATT from Pearson in March 2005.
Took and passed NCLEX April 2005.
I now have a job offer at the hospital of my own choice in Florida and travelling out there May 12th to sign my contract.
So I'm hoping I'll be there within a year, as Suzanne says, it can be done within a year if you're not using an agency.

to the others: see this is proof that it can be done and in much quicker time, especially from the uk if you do it on your own...........

Tina that is fab news that you had your ATT so quik. I'm not so lucky. I too applied independently in oct 2004. and am STILL waiting for my CES from CGFNS. It is near impossible to speak to anyone there, and I am going up the wall. Anyway, I too shall be working in florida (i hope), have the house, just need the documents! Can you give me any info as to where you sat the NCLEX, i know they are being held in london since january. Also, which are the 'good' review study books to buy - and did u have to study for months?
sorry for all the questions - any info would be wonderful.
    many thanks - flick.

    Hi Flick,
I'd be happy to help you any way I can. You sound as though you are walking in my shoes, applying to Florida independently. I encountered many problems along the way and have a few tricks up my sleeve :wink2:
If you want to PM me with your email address, I'll contact you.

Saunders with the CD. Do at least 3000 to 4000 questions before sitting for the exam.

Are you following up with CGFNS to see if they have even received the documents? There are e-mail addresses of administrators with CGFNS posted in the top sticky under the international forum........... you can try that approach.

You definitely should not be waiting this long........something is missing from your file...........

I have all the study materials going begging who ever wants them can have them I am not taking them with me when I go, i was going to send them to Tina before she took her NCLEX but she had pretty comprehensive study material. all i ask is that the P&P is paid for.
I did study for about 2 months consistantly but the key to it is to do the questions time and time again, you will know your stuff it is no different in US but you will need to study the drugs.

    Hope this helps
