Have any UK taught nurses successfully managed to work in the USA? I'm aware that you need mental health, paediatric and maternity clinical hours which is difficult to obtain as our courses are more specialised. I was wondering if anyone was able to get placement in these areas whilst studying to be an adult nurse?? I've done placements in outpatients department and gyneacology wards but I'm not sure if that's enough? If not what else would I need to do in order for me to get clinical hours in ental health, paediatric and maternity ? Currently in my final year studying MSc adult nursing.

Most of us did it back in the day when the UK qualification was the RGN, which included all four branches and therefore met the requirements.

One of the reasons they brought in the branches was to stop everyone going overseas! I believe there are facilities in the UK with the option to study all the branches consecutively, but without all of them you will not meet the requirements. You will need to demonstrate both theory hours and clinical hours in each specialty. I know this conversation has come up here before, I will need to read back previous threads to recall which facilities offer the multi-branch option.

Hello

were you able to find? I'm a Uk  Mental Health nurse trying to find out if I have any chance to be a registered nurse in USA?

Like I say, it depends on your UK qualifications.

Did you do RGN pre P2K, or did you train under the 'branch' system?

If you are RGN its no problem, but if you are Mental Health branch only, they you are not eligible for NCLEX.
