nursing uniforms

Can anyone explain why scrub patterns are so hideous? Big hearts, flowers.... maybe things I might dress a child in but certainly not myself.

I like some of the cutesy prints, BUT i'm a neonatal/pediatric nurse, kids love it!!!!:p

Well the older I get the larger the print needed, LOL I like some of those goofy prints, it make people laugh, we become objects of conversation and take the patients mind off of their illness even for only a short while.

Okay, I admit it, I wear the Scooby-Doo and the Noah's Ark prints, along with some mighty neat fish and other unique handmade scrub tops... but the ones I get the most comments on are the pedi prints.. No, it's not the kids commenting on them, it's the older folks, they LOVE them! They say they're adorable and I get comments like "I just LOVE that top!" Works great in the ER, we get all ages... Kids are distracted by the cartoons and animals, sick adults just don't care enough to notice, and familes, just think it's neat that we care enough to wear something like that for the kids that we see... Pendulum swings several ways.

I'm just beginning nursing school in 3 weeks so I have no choice. White top and navy pants. I've got mixed feelings about the patterned tops. Many are really nice looking but I worry about the "professional" look of some of them. Of course, attitude and actions speak for a professional not just appearance.

i wear homemade printed scrub tops...spongebob, blues clues, winnie the pooh, clifford... but i work peds and the kids just love them. gives them something to focus on and look at while we are assessing, vitals, changing iv bags etc.

i think as long as the scrubs match, are CLEAN WITH NO STAINS, and not WRINKLED, the goes pretty far in the way of professionalism (sp) no matter what the pattern. all whites can look like crap if their all stained, while my clean and neat pooh top with red pants can look great.

I like simple dark colors: navy, black, brown. Being me, I do not like patterns or loud colors. I do not put down other men who may like the patterns. I would be hard pressed to try and convince people that I am a professional, if I were wearing frogs, hearts, teddy bears or pretty flowers. I do agree that it separates us from our profession, yet I do not agree that we should go back to all white. I think that a "cutsy" jacket would be Ok, but the scrubs under would look better if they were also not so "cutsy". I guess it sounds like I have a strong opinion about this. But keep in mind that in the business world, you would never see anyone wearing "cutsy" stuff, this would not be allowed. They are going more casual, like polo shirts and khaki trousers, but I have not seen any women wearing what our "professional" nurses have been wearing in the recent past. If you want to be professional and believable, they present yourself that way!! joenp

I just went to a female doctor who came in the room wearing shorts and a sleeveless blouse. I"d think this would be offensive

but strangely enough I felt more at ease with her than with any other doc I've seen. Maybe Tom has a good idea!

I wear white.....just white. White pantyhose, shoes, uniform, cap, for I am pure as the first snow, and besides, Florence told me to.:D

Me too, white, white, white, only white shoes too. I do have a Hunter Green stethoscope tho;) :chuckle :nurse:
