How many people regret getting a tattoo? According to the American Society of Dermatological Surgery, over 50% of everyone receiving a tattoo wants it removed.
Statistics with resources, I love it! Also, I wouldn't be suprised if it was more than 50%. Just sayin' that not everyone regrets the tattoos they have.

I see a lot of people saying "don't do it." If you want a tattoo, I say go for it. Its your body +& only you have to live with it if you don't like it, or decide you don't like nursing.

Yeah. Wait till you're actually nursed for a while. Your excitement will drop significantly.

I vote for Florence's lamp.

How many marriages end in divorce? By this rationale, none of us should marry. And I'd add, I'm a little skeptical of any stats the ASDS puts out over tattoo removal. Kind of like when ACOG provides studies of Nurse Midwives. Could you perhaps provide a link to this study?
Was the topic "Should I get a tattoo?"? No, it was "Which design should I get?". Why would anyone who is anti-tattoo think that their opinion on tattooing would even be considered?
I personally think something with either the lamp or representing Hygieia is more representative of nursing than either the Rod of Asclepius or the Caduceus symbol. Those are associated more with the practice of medicine.

Please look at the tattoos of people in their 60s and 70s. Not so pretty.
I love seeing older people with tattoos. It makes me wonder about their youth and the story behind how they got the tattoo. Sure, the tattoo looks old and wrinkly, but so does the person wearing it.
I do agree with TheCommuter though- give yourself some time to work as a nurse before you go the ink route.
Yeah, I see the asclepius or the caduceus symbol and think medicine, not healing arts.

I love the argument about not getting a tattoo because when you are old they look saggy and wrinkly. IMO that's like saying not to style your hair because it will be gray and thin someday. Who care what anything looks like when I'm 80? If nothing else a saggy tattoo might take attention off the other unattractive saggy parts, lol.
I love old, indistinct tattoos like I love the old bodies of which they're a part. Most of me will be sagging and wrinkled when I'm 80; why not my tattoos?
I'm not interested in holding anything on an 80 year old body to the health and beauty standards of a 20-something. There is a beauty to aging, and that will hold for the tattoos as it does for the everything else on a human body.

The OP didn't ask if we thought she should get a tattoo...

Been proud to say I'm an ER nurse for many years. Now that I'm disabled, return to work is questionable, it's caused a big identity crisis for me. Seriously considering The Rod of Asclepius between the letter RN.

The Rod of Asclepius would be a nice choice for a tattoo. I have several tattoos, and have never regretted any of them. The large teaching hospital that I work at now has a policy about visible tattoos-they cannot be offensive/derogatory.
