Hi

I'm a second year student at a uni in the midalnds. I'm one of those smarties talked about who've opted to do the degree, although now I'm worried because we don't get a bursary next year and don't know if can afford it, plus theres just so much work to! Everyone in the world seems to think I should do it if I can. Anyone got a gleam of light for me? :studyowl:

Ok so now I am worried!!

My application went in on Sat for Norwich UEA for the degree.

A whole bunch of people I know are looking to change from Diploma to degree, hope I have done it the right way round?

Hello

I was given to understand that you apply for

the diploma and if you pass all exams you can apply for the degree not sure if this is right,

My understanding is that with deploma you get the bursary, and with degree its means tested.

Hi Sandie,

Ok spoke with NHS direct about diploma/degree thing.

There is no difference in the end qualification between the 2 but if you want to go on to do things like train nurses etc then the degree is preferable.

I was told that if you just want to work as nurse then diploma is fine.

Also entry requirements for degree may be higher depending on uni you go to.

or like many a nurse train get your diploma and pin and upgrade to adegree in the area you wish to specialize in.

might even get work to pay for the modules

Ok update from me.

I have been shortlisted for the degree at the UEA and have interview on 31st July.

Keep fingers crossed for me!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Hey there,

(interesting name by the way!).

I think its quite normal to have some doubts about ur career choice. I know I certainly did; I even tried some other courses before finally listening to my brain and heart.

Some of us are natural academics and find it easy to write a 3000 word essay within a day; and some have to work hard in order to achieve the same. Only u know what suits u best, and if not u'll figure it out soon enough. I think the best advice I can offer is: if you're having difficulty then seek help as soon as possible. sometimes all u need is someone to explain in a different way, after all its quite easy to go off track.

Hope that helps. sorry if i've gone overboard. good luck, and stay Positive!!

Hi, Im a new grad nurse in canada and was curious to know what student nursing was like in the UK. When you are in your last year do you have a consolidation, where you spend at least 4 months in the hospital on a unit of your choice with a preceptor where you will work whatever hours he or she works? Another question I have for you is, in your opinion, what is nursing like in the UK right now? are you confident in finding work after you graduate? there is a mega shortage of nurses over here so I had no problem in finding work whatsoever.

Good luck with your studies!
