Running, Walking, or Cross-Trainers?

I'm a new OR nurse -- still training, in fact. I have a pair of Alegrias and I'm planning to buy athletic shoes to rotate with them. Do I go for running shoes? Walking? Cross trainers? Which do you prefer and why?

Thanks in advance for your help and opinions!

I actually went to a running store that was recommended by my podiatrist and got personalized recommendations. The shoes I went with (Adidas Supernova Glide) are absolutely perfect for me. I would highly suggest you get personalized recommendations. I work with a lot of people who highly recommend Danskos, but they made my feet absolutely miserable. I no longer set store by what someone else recommends based on what they wear vs. what someone recommends because they have the experience to do it.

I rotate my Alegrias with Asics gel trail shoes. More support and grip than an ultralight...and I prefer them to crosstrainers. The problem I'm having is that I don't think my Alegrias are offering enough support for OR work. I love Rose Queen's suggestion to get some personalized recommendations. I'm having bad achilles pain even on my days off...bad enough that I stopped running altogether. I don't have as many issues after wearing my Asics. Good luck!

I also had my feet fitted to appropriate shoes! I have a pair of Brooks that I was fitted for that I love. I also recommend going to a running shoe store to have them set you up with something. The store near me closed recently so now I'm trying to find one similar since they are getting worn... Currently I alternate them with Danskos to preserve them a little longer.

I highly recommend Brooks. I'm a student nurse but work in a major retail store part time, placed in the footwear department. I wear brooks while I'm working. They are a very comfortable brand. I am currently wearing "Launch 2" style. They are a neutral cushioning shoe which means they have cushion through out the shoe, a soft bounce to your walk and lightweight mechanics. I have worn Nike Free shoes for a long time until I decided to give Brooks a chance. If you are on your feet all the time, Brooks are a great brand to go with, and a neutral shoe would be recommended (stability shoes, in my opinion are harder on the heel and do not give a soft walking feel to them).

I have SAS shoes and I love them. They were expensive, about $140, but my feet are never sore at the end of my shift plus they have lasted me for several years. I have the Freetime style. I tried on Danskos but they fly off my feet. My SAS shoes are also leather so I can just wipe them off when stuff happens.

Brooks makes great neutral shoes. I have the Glycerin 13 style and my feet never hurt after a shift (nursing student but work in the hospital lab, many days I am on my feet for the entire shift). The Brooks that I bought were about $150 but to be completely honest, they are totally worth it. I alternate them with my Nike Zoom Pegasus 31's and those are great shoes too. I have worn my Nike Free's to work but they don't seem to offer much support. I've worn Nike Shox as work shoes and they are not horrible but they seem to take a while to break in and then lose their support relatively quickly. This is one topic I could go on and on about because I am a running shoe junkie :)

I ♡ Vionics with Orthaheel for their sandals and flip flops...I have a pair of their athletic shoes and they are pretty nice too.

I am turning into a running shoe junkie myself since I've worked with shoes for over a year now.
