Preferred Nursing Shoe?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

my clinical attire regulations state: white regulation nursing shoes are to be worn with a closed toe and heel. no sandals, clogs, patent leather or canvas shoes are permitted.

ok i was hoping i could wear a new pair of all white nb sneakers as they are the only ones that don't make my plantar fasciitis flare up because i can get a wide width.

what do you recommend? i need something that gives the support my heels need but aren't ugly either. thanks in advance!

I've always loved the look of those Dansko mary janes. My question is, how are they for a wide foot? My feet were completely normal until I had a baby, but now I need a wide shoe.... I don't want to be stuck in some old lady shoes!

I suppose it all depends on how wide your feet are- BUT I have a wide foot and i CANNOT fit into Danskos at all...which is a shame because I really adore some of their styles. I wear NB wide tennis shoes or crocs...but cannot wear Crocs for school

dansko are the way to go. I work 16 hour shifts sometimes and by the time that I get home my feet or back dont bother me at all considering how hard those floors are

I got a pair of Nike Shox for my clinicals and I LOVE them! They are really comfy and they look good, and you can get them in all white. They are a little pricey,( $110):monkeydance: but they are worth it. They are also really easy to clean.

I have the Dansko Marcelle (Mary Jane) and they are great. I also have the Sonja and the Professional -- which can bother my instep after a long day ( I have a somewhat wide foot and a high in-step). I have heard that the Pita style runs wider.

In any case, at $110 dollars, try before you buy. The one bad part about Dansko is that one pair of size 38's can be tight, and the next pair of size 38's can be just right.

I wear K swiss, my feet never hurt and i never take breaks or sit down during clinical, so after 8 hours of being on my feet all day, they feel fine at the end of the day. And Kswiss are cheap but durable.

I think as long as they are white and that they have backs are the most important thing. I don't think they'll nitpick the brand or anything, but it never hurts to ask just incase.

Right before I started nursing school I went to a Rugged Warehouse store and bought a plain jane pair of white reeboks. I have worn them ONLY to clinicals and they have stayed white...lucky me LOL. Anyway - I'm on my last semester of them and they just now got a hole in them. That is since 2004. Pretty good!

i wear Birkenstocks!! I love them, the first few times you wear them they are uncomfortable because you have to give them time to mold to your feet.

I spent 60bucks on a pair of nursing shoes at a uniform shop and i couldn't make it through a 7 hour clinical in those things my feet were barking at me at like the 3rd hour.

I decided to try birkenstocks yes expensive, i think mine were like 125 but soooo worth it. I've worked 16 hour shifts in an ER as a tech, and my feet never hurt. I've had them almost a year and i couldn't be happier with them. Just be patient while braking them in and you won't be sorry. I think the recommendation is to wear them a few hours a day for 2-3 weeks to get them to mold to your feet. A few 12 hour shifts and they will be perfect.

i love them and can't say enough good stuff about them. The only thing i don't like is i bought white because i have to have white shoes for clinical and they look kind of dirty between work and clinical. Next pair i buy i will buy black. The one thing nice about birkenstocks is that you can get everything on them replaced. the soles and the leather tops. The corkbeds last forever!! i know people who've had pairs for 15 years or more!!

good luck in your search, btw the first pair i bought were cherokee!!!

you can buy them at Birkenstocks.com, or allheart.com I bought the white clogs with the backstrap!!!

I went on a hunt for white danskos and the uniform store in town only had black ones (bleh.) But they did have some white clogs by Spring Step that are very similar to Danskos, and are about half the price! They fit my foot well (my feet are very narrow) and with the exception of heel blisters when I broke them in, I've been pretty happy with them. I will probably need new shoes when I start doing 12 hour shifts, though, because my feet bug me after about 6-7 hours, but for an 8-hour clinical, that's bearable to me.

Once I work in the real world and don't have to wear white shoes I plan on trying out something else, like crocs.

Nike Shox look cool and are on my list to try. I recently bought a pair of Z-Coils and they are heaven. My feet used to hurt so much. Now they don't. You can get heel covers for the heels --and then they will look like an ordinary shoe. They are even more expensive than Nike Shox, but I think they are worth it. I got my pair for around $170. They gave me $20 off as I showed them my work ID. --You might find a location in your area that will offer you a similar discount.

I second the Nike Shox!!! I LOVE mine - feet never complain! :)

I have a pair of white sneakers, but I REALLY prefer crocs. They just came out with a new design that has a higher heel, and I am buying a pair ASAP. Nothing else is as comfortable as my crocs.
