Need Some Wisdom

  1. Hey all!

I'm looking to invest in some new shoes since I'm going back to work in a nursing home The last job I had in assisted living was nothing in comparison to working in a nursing home in terms of the amount of time I spent on my feet. The shoes I have bought in the past seemed like a good idea until I wore them a couple of days and my knee, which is held together with screws, would swell the size of a watermelon.

I know many of you have your favorite pair of shoes and I was wondering if you could give me some words of advice here.

    Thanks in advance!:wink2:

Check the thread under General (at the top) The scroll down to nursing gear, there are a whole bunch of posts about nursing shoes, all different types. The Z-Coil looks very interesting! Good luck!

New Balance with arch supports work for me.

I really do need the arch supports. I practically have no arches.

Love my Dansko clogs. I bought some to wear on my days off. They have higher arches inside than tennis shoes, so it can take a few days to get used to them. They also have lots of room in the toe box, which is great for me, as I have wide feet. They last forever, too.

Oh, the Danskos are made in China now. They used to be made in Europe. If you want the European workmanship rather than the Chinese, buy Sanitas. Sanita makes the same clogs in the same facility where the Danskos were made before they shipped that labor to China.

I'm a five toe amp so I can relate to swelling issues. I wear New Balance as well and also have a TED stocking when its damp.

I'm a Dansko nurse, although my current pair are Sanitas (same shoe, different name). Interesting to know Dansko's are now made in China.

If you have practically no arches, you likely overpronate. Look for some stability shoes if you do indeed overpronate. I have a pair of New Balance stability shoes (858) and love them more than any shoe ever. I overpronate, too.

Awesome! Thank you all so much for the advice. I appreciate it more than you know. It's so hard to find a good pair of comfy shoes when you have feet that are as flat as a pancake.

I haven't seen any props for Birki's on here...

I need a hip replacement, but they won't do it because I'm too young.
Birkis and a little ibuprofen lets me pound an ICU floor for 14 hours at a time. (When I still work from time to time )
