Nursing school? - with toddlers?

Published

Hi!,

I am currently a SAHM wanting to go back to school for an associate degree in nursing. I previousl ahd three years in a pre-med program before deciding to quit.

Now, I have 2 kids, 18 mo. and 2.5 yrs. Anyone else out there braving nursing school with toddlers? If so, how is it going? My kinds have never been in day care before, so I wonder how the transition would be.

Thanks for any input.

I also have a 5 yr old and a 22 month old. I'm still doing pre-reqs but it can be done.

I go to school in the evenings and online classes so that my husband can watch them when I am gone. I also have my mother and my SIL in case of emergencies. I normally take about 14 hours a semester and make A's.

I do virtually all my studying in the evening after they are in bed and I am home from school.

There's lots of mothers trying to do the program. I have 2 toddlers (age 2 & 3) and it's very hard but it takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice. Make sure your husband helps out more around the house and with the kids. If you have them in daycare, it will be a lot easier for you. But I agree with Manna, get them used to it slowly. My mother watches my kids a couple of times a week and after a year of going to school my kids still have a little separation anxiety.

Keep posting here, a lot of us can relate to your situation.

Teresa is my hero. :)

I have a 19 month old son and 2 girls aged (almost) 10 and 8 yrs. It is really hard to drop the baby off at the sitter (baby, toddler, whatever...he is still "baby" to me!) but he is adapting well and so am I. TIME MANAGEMENT is the issue! You get that down and you can do ANYTHING! :)

I have a 14 year old and a 16 year old. It can be done. Ok I'm kidding. My boys don't bother me, it's my hubby. :)

Anyway, when I start the real nursing courses and feel overwhelmed, I'm going to read about Teresa. Unbelievable! I am so impressed.

I have a 9 month and a 21month and I am taking 3 classes this semester and I work full time. It takes a lot of support, and like many of the other posters have said..It takes tremendous time management. Good luck and keep plugging away!

I have a 23-month-old daughter. I am going to school at an ADN program two nights a week and every other weekend. This way my husband is home with her and I don't have to send her to daycare. It is going really well so far, although I don't have much time to study. Probably because I like to take a nap when she does!

Awe shucks, you all are too much. Made me laugh and smile today. Actually in my opinion it's easier to do school with the little ones sometimes than the older ones. My older kids wear me out. I held off going to school for a long time because I felt like I couldn't have my big old family and school too and my kids were always my first priority. Then I woke up one day and realized if I wanted it bad enough I could have them both. Of course I am dragging my husband along for the bumpy ride, lol. Definitely doable if your mind is set on it.

I had 5 kids when I did my BS/MS and worked full time. I only had two babies, under two when I started nursing school and I worked full time. Was awful but possible.

Hello,

I have 3 kids they are 4, 2, & 1. I have a really supportive hubby too. I found a great daycare on campus. If I take 13 units I get 13 hours of study time and they watch the children in addition to my class time. All is based on my units and my income. I feel confident that I can do it! I wish you the best of luck! IT CAN BE DONE!!!!
