nursing school stress

Published

I am so stressed out about applying to nursing school in the fall of oct 06. I live in california and it just seems like every nursing school I research they are all impacted. I think I am going to have to apply to like ten schools to increase my chances...Isn't there a small town somewhere in another state that does not have an impacted nursing program??? or it is everywhere??? I would gladly accept any feedback, comments, suggestions...but espec. how long it took for some to get into nursing school, how many times and how many different schools do you apply to before you got admitted??? Has anyone graduated from a nursing school that wasn't super packed, and you are pretty much guaranteed acceptance??? Please let me know as soon as possible!!!!

THANK YOU

the waiting list here in texas is not any better

You think the wait is stressful?

Let us know how your stress level is when you finally start into a nursing program.

Good one Clee1. You're right the stress only gets greater. Are we having fun yet? :smackingf

I am in So. CA and the wait list here for the community colleges is 2 years. The State colleges have no wait list but go by GPA and previous experience in the medical field. Good luck! I chose to go the LVN route so I wouldn't have to wait so long and will start this fall. Will be done with my pre-reqs before I get my LVN and then will get on wait list for bridge to RN. That wait list is suppose to be a year.

Hey I live in Houston Tx and it took me 3 years to get in and that was with a 3.7 GPA and 7 years experience in the OR as a Surgical Tech. 600 people applied for 120 spots!!! Hang in there. That is why I went to scrub school so I could work and make decent money while trying to get out of RN school.

wow, scrubnurse8129, you really brought this one back from the dead!

Someone mentioned here that they were going to a nursing school in Oklahoma that had NO waiting list, I believe they took everyone with a decent GPA?

i live in so. cal and was in the exact same situation that you are in. i was told that the wait, on average, was 2-3 years. one school i applied to had a 5-6 year wait list. with this in mind, i sent out applications to 5 schools and actually got into 4 out of the 5 immediately. the 5th one, closest to home, admitted me a semester later.

my advice would be to apply to as many schools as you can, get on with your life and enjoy it...but keep your fingers crossed. while waiting, i got married, took additional classes to improve myself and gpa, enjoyed my "free" time, and continued working full time to save money for school.

i agree with clee1, once you're in the program, you'll wish you had savored your "waiting" time much more. it is intense and nothing (not even talking to nurses, nursing students and volunteering in hospitals) prepared me for what was in store.

good luck to you!

I am in TN, and got in to a BSN program right out of high school. If you apply to most BSN programs right out of high school, as long as you complete your prereqs with a grade of C or better, they'll hold a spot for you. If you wait until after you're done your prereqs, you just might end up on the waiting list!

Don't let getting into nursing school stress you out. If you think you're stressed out now, wait until your first semester!!!

You might want to apply at Glendale Community College in Glendale, CA because I don't think the wait is that long and I'll tell you why I believe this. In 2005 I applied at GCC and 8 months later, I was accepted. Unfortunately, I had to drop one week before I even started class due to a family emergency that required me to go out of state. I was placed back on the list and 15 months later, I've been accepted again to start this September. They base it on your GPA and how well you did in your science classes. I have no idea why I was selected so soon. Unfortunately, up until this Spring, September 2007, there was no entrance exam (they call it a diagnostic test) for which I will have to study for when I find out at orientation exactly what it is.

Also, check into College of the Canyons in Valencia, CA.

I live in Michigan and just finished my Associates program. It is competitive here as well..about 300 applicants to 100 seats. The best chances to get in are having a near perfect GPA and do very well on your NET exam. But don't give up now..you haven't begun to experience stress yet!

2 yr wait in iowa at least and here they go by a points system which includes GPA for prereqs and that's including GPA in high school. That sucked for me because I am a totally different person than I was in high school. In high school I did not care one bit about school and did poorly. In college for my prereqs I had a 4.0 GPA but I still had to wait longer than others.
