I work for home based primary care and I make home visits on a monthly basis. Our program now may include following our patients to the end of life even if they are on hospice. There has been recent discussion about our program's RN case manager to make home visits and treat non hospice diagnosis. Hospice nurse will also make home visits and provide hospice care of the related hospice diagnosis. Personally I think it is a duplication of services and I feel my license is at risk. I feel confused, helpless, frustrated, and scared. I also don't feel confident visiting hospice patients since I do not have any hospice care experience. Help, where do I go from here?

Hi, I've been an RN Case Manager for Home Based Primary Care for 2 years now. While I love working with adult geriatric population and hrs (m-f 8-4:30), my real passion is for wound care. I LOVE all wounds, and ostomies. From the minute I decided to be a nurse, I KNEW I had to become a wound care nurse! Our home care program does not deal with stage 3 and above wounds due to increased nurse visit frequency. I would love to get my WOCN online through Emory but I'm debating whether to get my MSN first. While researching this, I've come across many wound care nurses who all have MSN credentials next to their name. I've also been told since I don't have acute care experience, I will not get hired as a wound care nurse. Help! Any advice appreciated! Should I get my MSN now, ( not married yet, no kids), if so which specialty track to better market myself. After MSN, I should get my WOCN? Or should I move away from home care, transfer to Med surg for more acute care experience dealing with more complicated wounds? Thanks! Jackie

I just graduated in Dec 09 and I am considering LTC myself...Can you tell me more about your job? How is it different from a hospital job? Are you able to practice all of your nursing skills? Thanks!

Hi I just wanted some feedback from graduates of this program to find out some more information regarding exactly how long the program takes, where clinical sites are, how many students are in this program, etc since orientation doesn't start until Aug... Hi I am in the first semester at ccsf and i am having a blast! It took me a year to get in. Hang in there! Don't give up, it is definetly worth the wait! Good luck! CCSF is one the top if not the best nursing program in sf! Jackie

Hi everyone thanks so much for all of your great input!! I finally did it!!! I was so proud of myself!! It wasn't as bad as I thought!! Yea it was uncomfortable at first, but the patients really do appreciate it!!! You just have to suck it up and do it!! It is sad when patients can't bathe themselves due to a disease, decreased mental status, etc, they lose their privacy and it is our job as soon to be nurses to give them the best care! I love clinical!!! jackie

Hi I will be starting clinicals the first week of feb! does anyone have any tips or advice on how to make a patient feel comfortable for bed baths??? or any tips when u did ur first patient bed bath? how long did it take you? or how to get over my fear of giving one? thanks jackie

Yea it has been a year long wait, but I have finally been accepted into nursing school at city college of sf!!! I am so excited, scared, nervous, and ready for the long and stressful journey ahead! Is anyone else going here for spring 08? Any graduates from this college? Can you use PDA'S??? Let me know asap! How were the hospitals-CPMC, SF General, Davies Center, and St. Luke's? Thanks! Thank you to everyone who has replied to my post!!! How do you know that you wanted to be a nurse? Are there tell tale signs?? I am very interested in medicine and I have completed all of the prereqs...the OR dept or Peds really interests me...If I chose not to go into nursing and try and excel at my secretarial job at Kaiser, are there any other certifications or degrees or even classes that I could take to such as coding, or being a tech to increase my options at kaiser??? I truly appreciate everyone's comments and advice!!! Once again, keep them coming, and thanks!!!

hi everyone i am obsessed with this website, but i am starting to have reservations about going to nursing school. i have applied to around 10 adn programs for fall 07. i already have 2 assoc. degrees and i just got a great full time job as a clerk with kaiser permanente. to be honest i am not sure if nursing is really what i want...how do you know? i am afraid that if i do get accepted into nursing school in the fall, i will give up everything, including this new job. what if i don't like nursing school? what if it gets too hard and if i am not 100% positive that i really want to become a nurse, i might not be that motivated to finish nursing school???!!! help, i am really stuck! i want to make my parents proud of me, (i still live at home and i am 23 years old)...if i go to nursing school i will continue to live at home for 2 more years with no social life...but if i decide to keep my great job at kaiser i would be able to increase my social life, independence and move out!!! any suggestions or advice is welcomed!!! thanks so much for understanding me!!!
