I'm gonna attempt to get these classes done during the breaks but it's reassuring that they will not keep me from getting a job as an RN. My goal is to get an ASN even if I get thoses classes done after I finish because I want to go on to get a BSN in Forensic Nursing. The general education classes I need to take for graduation are Intermediate Algedbra I and II (I already have Elementary Algebra), a state & local government class (knowledge of state and local governement) and an interdisciplinary Humanities class.

I've been accepted into the nursing program at my college and start June 19. As part of the requirements to begin classes, along with getting drug tested and fingerprinted, I had to meet with an academic counselor. I found out thru the counselor that I am missing 4 general education classes to get my associates degree in Nursing. She told me that if I can fit in these three general education classes during the winter and summer between the nursing classes, and pass them, than I can graduate with an ASN. Now that did not add more stress on me. It seems that I did my prereq's and requirements to get into the nursing program at another college for their nursing program. Since I applied at that college and the one I was accepted into, I assumed the requirements were the same because they are in the same district. When I applied here, I was not told anything different from the nursing department. I was also told by the academic counselor that even if I was unable to do the 4 general ed. classes during the program, because I already have an A.S. degree in something else, I can still finish the RN program with a certificate and still take the NCLEX-RN and be a licensed RN. My question and predicament is will there be a problem getting a nursing job without the Associates Degrees but still be a licensed RN? I was told by the counslor that Nevada right now is the only state requiring nurses to have an ASN. Any advice and knowledge is sooooo appreciated.

Wayyyy back in June of 1984 I just got out of Coast Guard boot camp and my first unit was the Coast Guard Cutter Spar in South Portland, ME. My favorite thing about living in Maine was just that, living in Maine. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful state in this country and the most wonderful people. The islands of Maine are absulutely beautiful and I've been to a few. My favorite things about Maine are the seafood, expecially lobster, steamed clams and raw oysters, the beautiful scenery, Old Orchard Beach, no traffic (at least not in '84 and '85), L.L. Bean, Portland Head lighthouse, bars, clean air, restaurants and again, the people, Bar Harbor, Rockland and the accent is kinda funny too. I would love to go back there someday.

You might want to apply at Glendale Community College in Glendale, CA because I don't think the wait is that long and I'll tell you why I believe this. In 2005 I applied at GCC and 8 months later, I was accepted. Unfortunately, I had to drop one week before I even started class due to a family emergency that required me to go out of state. I was placed back on the list and 15 months later, I've been accepted again to start this September. They base it on your GPA and how well you did in your science classes. I have no idea why I was selected so soon. Unfortunately, up until this Spring, September 2007, there was no entrance exam (they call it a diagnostic test) for which I will have to study for when I find out at orientation exactly what it is.

I myself disagreed with the statement that illegals receive Social Security benefits, even SSI. However, I can tell you for a fact that in California, illegals do and can receive welfare benefits (they cannot ask if a person is documented), State disability benefits and workers' comp benefits. California is wacked in this regard. It seems here in Cali that illegals can get better and more benefits than legal residents and legal citizens. I can also tell you for a fact that our secty's mother is receiving SSI and she has never worked in the U.S. and is not disabled in any manner at all. She is perfectly healthy and never asked for it, but she receives it.

Oh, but they say they are not criminals. Hmmmm, let's analyze that statement.....they cross over our border and come into the United States illegally (which is in violation of Federal Immigration laws of the U.S.), they knowingly purchase Social Security cards that have numbers that belong to someone else which is a Federal crime. From how I see it, you break a federal law, you are technically a criminal, correct?

My mother is from Canada and has worked here for the last 43 years and she only gets $825 a month in Social Security. What's wrong with that?

I take it back on how much they get in SS. Our legal Secty's mother came over here from Iran and she became a citizen. Even though she has never worked a day of her life in the U.S., she get $879 a month in SS. When she turned 65, she received something in the mail from Social Security Admin. to start SS. I believe it's SSI.
