Nursing school is pretty easy so far...

Published

before i started school i was so scared because everyone was saying how its so hard and a lot of people dont survive the first semester etc. people were saying how the teachers at my school are evil and rush through the material, that couldnt be further from the truth.

the only "hard" class so far is a&p but even that is not difficult. cell organization? organ systems? i learned this in grade 11 for christs sake. you just need to put in the time to study so you can memorize all the definitions. why does everyone say nursing school is so hard? i thought first semester was supposed to be the hardest?

I AGREE IM IN MY 3rd term!

level 2&3 are the hardest and is when they start throwing harder and more information at you.. Level 1 is just easy cna stuff...

Eh....well...you just started. And it isn't like you are taking hardcore Pathophysiology or Fundamentals...or are you?

Everyone is different. I wouldn't have called it hard so much as time consuming. Although sometimes you will get questions that seem impossible because they are somewhat subjective and that can lower grades. There are going to people who breeze through nursing school, and others who struggle, same with the NCLEX, same with the career.

I wouldn't however say it's easy, especially to those who struggled, but still survived. It's sort of a subjective view point. I was lucky, and very good at school. I did not struggle, but I did try to help my classmates study and prepare for exames to survive. However, I would only spend my time on those who wanted to study and put the time in; my classmates that just wanted copies of the notes I made that the rest of us worked so hard to create, well, they were turned down. Those of us who made the effort did just fine, those of us who didn't, failed either school or the NCLEX.

If you did well in science classes in high school maybe it seems easy to you now, but as time goes on you'll see where other people have strengths that are just as valuable. When you start clinicals this becomes evident as sometimes the one that is just an average science student has a real knack for picking up organizational skills or picks up their clinical skills quickly.

I got to be friends with a girl who had been a CNA (the only one in our class who had). She was quiet, and she really struggled with being able to memorize everything. Once we were out on the floor, though - she was a fantastic resource and all us booksmart people discovered we had a lot to learn.

You're right about the drama some people dump before you start, though!! I guess that's better than if they told you it would be a breeze and you found out otherwise. :)

Keep your positive attitude, but please prepare for what is coming.

Keep your focus and keep your head on straight.

It isn't that the material is impossible to learn or that the work is so hard... it's the ability to focus, keep organized and keep on top of things.

The amount of work to do in one 8 week class can still be more than you would be expected to do in a 16 week class.

If all nursing classes were 16 weeks and the workload remained the same... well, that would be sweet.

Believe me, once we got to hemodynamics, we were crying out for the days of A&P.

Keep up the good work :)

My BSN program was my best school experience ever. Challenging and supportive. Good luck.

Not so much hard, as it is just time consuming. Just lots of time needs to be devoted to studying to memorize, learn and understand the material. Apply yourself and you'll go far. Take it as a joke or think you don't need to study, and you'll learn quickly that you're setting yourself up for failure.

Glad you're doing well in your first semester, just remember, it will get harder as you advance. So keep that positive attitude!

It sounds like you're in the Gen Ed classes yet... It will get harder when you actually reach the core nursing courses. If it doesn't and the nursing courses are a breeze too, you're either a genious or you're not absorbing what's being taught. Only the NCLEX will tell.

Keep up the positive attitude! Hopefully nursing school will continue being accomplishable for you.

I'm just starting out at Cypress and at family night orientation everyone seemed really nice. I'm just overwhelmed with the amount of books. I will be dedicating the time as if it were the hardest thing I ever had to do. Just in case I don't want to get behind or start off badly, but it's great to hear not everyone feels it's hell. Lol

I found that nursing school got easier as the program went on. I think that was because I knew what they expected of us, I started thinking like a nurse-in-training and I figured out the most efficient ways to study. And I also never let my guard down about it. However, your mileage may vary.

So enjoy the easy parts while they last :) But be prepared for things to take a possibly 180 in the future...it may be the next class that is a monster, or it'll be a few classes down the road, or maybe you'll really be lucky and that 180 may never come.

Good luck!
