before i started school i was so scared because everyone was saying how its so hard and a lot of people dont survive the first semester etc. people were saying how the teachers at my school are evil and rush through the material, that couldnt be further from the truth.
the only "hard" class so far is a&p but even that is not difficult. cell organization? organ systems? i learned this in grade 11 for christs sake. you just need to put in the time to study so you can memorize all the definitions. why does everyone say nursing school is so hard? i thought first semester was supposed to be the hardest?
Looking for some large nursing schools offering a bachelors in nursing, ready to transfer from a two year school with all my pre-reqs completed in may. Can anyone suggest a school that takes a Good amount of transfers and has a great clinical program, would love a great co-op program. Have. 3.5 gpa as of right now, one semester left. Please any suggestions!!
A&P is a pre-req not a Nursing class. I dont totally disagree with you, the material is not really harder to learn in Nursing school, but the exams get progressively more difficult and what I struggle with the most is how little time we get to learn it. Every single weekend I am studying or writing a careplan. What is your schedule like? Do you have clinicals? We work 2 days a week and ofcoorifice have careplans, etc.
Yes I agree with those that say the AMOUNT of content is time-consuming & difficult. Have you had a test yet? In A&P only one answer is right. But in nursing, the question could be asking you to select all that apply(SATA). All of the answers could be right, three of the answers could be right, etc. And priority questions; all of the answers are right but which one do you as the nurse implement first? I found that in order to be successful in nursing school you have to study a bit differently than you would for micro or a&p. Know the nursing interventions, clinical manifestations, nursing management, medical management, things like that.
Which program are you in? When you say first semester are you reffering to the pre requisites or the actual nursing program? It is refreshing to hear that it is not as hard as everyone says it is because I too have been WORRYING. I feel like Im preparing to climb mount everest for petes sake..lol I am in NAS 162 right now and after I finish i hope to apply to the program. if you are in the program can you tell me how you got in? was it hard to get in? any tips? thank you soo much
Wait until you hit your 30 page care plan that needs to be completed in just 1 day and you have to be in clinical the next morning at 0630:banghead:
... and have about 20 drugs memorized... and interpret about a zillion abnormal labs...
Not hard... can be done... it's the time frame and lack of sleep that gets ya.
What is a Care plan? Can you tell me a little bit about that? Thank you :)
It's a learning tool that guides you to think about what it is that you need to do for your pt.
There is a very specific way you must do it and it can be tedious.
Tip: find a template, save all your careplans and make "copy-and-paste" your best friend.

My 1st semester was the easiest, but it definetely picked up in the 2nd. Though, like some others have said, it wasn't so much that it was difficult but that it's A LOT of work doing assignments, studying, etc. And the tests were so subjective so even if I knew the material I sometimes got questions wrong. I was so worried about starting school too because I heard it was so hard. A&P was a breeze for me, but med-surg... not so much lol.
