My first day of class is August 23rd and I'm terrified. Am I the only one?

Specializes in Eventually ER or flight nurse!.

I start my first clinical semester the day after tomorrow and I am SO nervous just because of all of the horror stories I am hearing on these threads about hw many people fail the first semester!! Good luck to everyone on here and in about 2 years I hope to see a lot of posts from everyone who has posted so far about how they have PASSED their NCLEX!!

:yeah:

Thanks guys!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like this. I wish you all the best of luck :)

I start on Aug 23 and while I am excited I am also petrified. I took A & P one last semester and made an A but it took a lot of study. This semester I am taking 8 hours of nursing courses and A & P two. Are there enough hours in the day to study enough to do well. I am really hoping a lot of the learning is hands on so that what I read will be more likely to stick.

I start Aug 18th. I am anxious but not scared. The campus I am going to only has 30 students and I know several already. I think that is what has kept me from being scared. If I had chosen the other campus there would be 130 students.

lol2, My program which I have been on the waiting list for 2 years... has 235 students!! I'm sure this will dramatically decrease, but I feel like this is a hug section. Our waiting lists are so bad here, they announced last december they won't be accepting applications until 2012/2013 fall year.

Right now I am feeling so glad I took A&P over the summer. My first semester looks pretty good... Psych, nursing skills, nursing communication, and one other which slipped my mind at the moment.

The local community college near me has a ridiculous waitlist. People that are accepted now won't be starting until 2015!!

What?? That IS ridiculous! What's the point of even accepting someone now, then? :lol2: I'm sure a large portion of those students will change their mind by then or move on to another school!

It is totally ridiculous, but if you have no other options, then I guess you wait. You're right that many people will decide not to wait and move on to apply elsewhere, which may up your start date, but still...it's crazy. I can't imagine waiting 5 years to start a 2 year associates program. 7 years to get your associates degree?! Crazy.

I start Nursing School the 23rd of August and I am terrified, excited and nervous all at the same time  I had orientation the 11th and my heart about beat out of my chest i was so nervous. I'm 33 and obviously and older student, lol, :lol2: but I know i can make it and I just have to wait and see in a week how class and clinicals go. What i am not liking right now is not knowing how to prepare!! EEEkkkkkk :)

I don't get the extreme waiting lists. We get accepted for the semester we apply or not. If we have to defer admission for any reason, we go back in the same applicant pool and we might or might not get in for the following semester. And I'm at a community college not a private one. A 5 year wait list? That's totally insane. Anything more then maybe 1 semester is in my opinion.

We had orientation on Tuesday. I got my scrubs yesterday. I can't wait to start, our first day of class is Sept 13th. I got the clinical day and placement I want (we don't get to chose, we get assigned. We only have our choice between day or night clinical). One of my friends that I took nutrition with is in my clinical group so I'm really happy about that!

I agree. My school is like yours, you either get in or not. If not, then you have to reapply the following year, same as everyone else.

I am waiting to see if I got accepted- should know by the end of September. I just started as a CNA with hospice - I was already a volunteer for them and love it! So far I feel my experiences in hospice will be an asset for me when I get into nursing. It is very rewarding to be with people who are dying and be able to give them some dignity and comfort. Some people tell me they would never do CNA because of what is involved - I say it is a great experience.
