Nursing school on hold

Hi I am a new member with this blog. I went to college for my Nursing, but finished all my prerequisite course in 2008. Took off a few years due to personal issues. I want to go back but I am discouraged because I earned a B+ in Math Calculations class. This class was taken on line at BMCC. I messed up due to assignments that were late on my part.. had computer issues. Any way I am also afraid I can't remember certain subjects I was taught. I am thinking on going back for my LPN instead in hope for a retake of the Math dosage class to earn a grade A. I don't know what to do anymore. I do insurance exams on doctors and nurse's including blood draws and EKGs. I become sad when I see the nurses wishing I can continue my education. I am not getting any younger. I can no longer take out any student loans as well.. any advice I really need some.

What is the age limit on the science prerequisite classes for the program(s) you want to attend? If you can get in under the wire, do so. Do not worry about repeating anything. A B+ is plenty good enough. Any review that you may need can be easily completed while you are in nursing school. If your courses are too old, then any way you look at it, you are going to have to repeat those courses for recency purposes. If you can not take out loans, then you will be forced to find other means to pay for school, such as working and saving up the money. Good luck.

Thank you for you response it has helped me. But in order to get into the nursing program at BMCC I do need a A in the math dosage class I was told. I was thinking on taking that course at a online school.. not a costly one though. Searching for my options. I am also a Medical Assistant seeking work in NYC. It's difficult.. Have been turned down due to me not speaking a second language (Spanish). I have strong Phlebotomy skills and its still hard. But I thank you for you advice.:)

Well, if BMCC requires an A in math dosage class, I guess we know what step 1 is! If you take the course at any other school than BMCC, I would certainly clear it with BMCC first. Be a pain to go through the trouble and expense, only to find out that BMCC will not accept your substitute course.

Advice on what? You say you have a B+ on some class which is a good grade and why would that have any influence on getting into school? The you say you can't get loans and get in anyway? So what do you want advice on? The post makes no sense. Are you asking should you go to nursing school? Well you say you can't because you cannot get loans? Then try for scholarships Are you asking how to get better grades? Study more. I am confused by the post.

To me it sounds like she's looking for some support from current nurses. Maybe from their experience she can learn another way around it all that she was unaware. Isn't that part of the reason for this forum?!

Good luck newyear626. It's never too late. One step at a time. It may take a while, but you can get there if you don't give up!

Thank you for understanding my situation. I will not give up. I needed some encouragement and that's exactly what you did. :)
