I need some feedback on how to deal with some of the issues that I am facing now in week 5 of school. Its really gotten old. We have lots of instructors that do not communicate well with each other, countless hours of busy work, confusing assignments, and students who instead of supporting each other are contstantly trying to show each other up:( I can litterally feel the knots forming in my shoulders and neck right now. I manage time well and dont procrastinate.... so how do I learn to enjoy school again?

well, what are your options if you quit nursing school? Maybe you can be a checker at Jewel?

Seriously do you know how many people would DIE for this opportunity? You will be a well-respected professional in the hottest job market around. You will get a job any where, with benefits no less. You will have the chance to make a difference in others' lives.

Perhaps you might want to think about starting a gratitude list.

I could be wrong, as I have not started nursing school yet... but I have heard that many students do try and show each other up in class. I heard this from a lady whose daughter had started nursing school recently. She said they get in clicks and the like. They talk.. talk.. talk about each other.

Just stay focused. Your job is to be a student and pass. Bottom line. Others will try to distract you. Just try and stay focsued. I am going to try and ignore it as best I can if it happens in my classes.

Hang in there!! ;)

Please hang in there! Take the weekend to reorganize your life so that the stress with school will be reduced:

1. Find someone at school with whom you click and try to arrange for some study time together.

2. If you are confused as to an assignment, raise your hand and ask. If that is not possible, stay after a minute to clarify things in your mind.

3. Ignore the negative students. You can only control your own reactions to them.

4. Set aside 30 minutes a day for just YOU - something which you like to do (like cruise All Nurses - lol) or exercise (yuck - I'd rather surf All Nurses).

Hang in there - it does get better.

I am in the 2nd month of nursing school and just took test 3. I will tell you everyday is a challange. There have already been drop outs. Some due to grades, some due to having to work, and at least one who said it was way to much work for two years and she really didn't want it. I feel there are teachers who REALLY try to help you make good grades and some who try and make sure you are reading everything because their questions come from everywhere. We are not working against each other in our class. We are all just trying to hang in there. I can't imagine someone having enough time to worry about everyone else. I really believe if I make it I am going to love it.

God Bless and Good Luck,

honestly, this is the toughest thing you will ever do. I have been in tears several times throughout the semesters, and many times, so tired and discouraged that I thought I couldnt take another minute.

The only thing that has kept me going was the thought of how hard I had worked to get there. That and a support system. Find someone who will pat your back, tell you its ok, dry your tears and buy you a big, I mean really BIG margarita.

the back biters will continue thru- it is amazing that the "competition" will still exist even tho you are all in the same boat. Ignore it and find inner peace, find your quiet place within yourself and forge on.

Its not about not "working at Jewel", or being "in the hottest job market", its about being true to yourself, and following your dream

I dont think I said anywhere in my post that I wanted to quit. Are you in nursing school yet? Do you know how frustrating it can get? Im grateful that I got in, and for the opportunity that I have, but its not without its flaws and frustrations.

Well I felt the exact same way but just tucked my head down and pushed forward. My reflection back was that nursing school was not a good experience for me. It makes me kind of sad because the information was very interesting and I really enjoyed learning however all the disorganization, double standards and political crap really soured me. The good news is that I stuck with it, got great grades and by semester two it really didn't phase me anymore and the best news is that I ended up becoming really close friends with a couple of my classmates.

Listening to all the horror stories makes me feel as if nowhere else was much better so I stuck with where I was and am really proud of finishing. Good luck. Jules

I'm happy to say I haven't seen this happening in my school so far, but then I'm older, happy to have a couple of people I am aquainted and can commiserate with on breaks or at clinicals, and the young gal who was my lab partner to call and pick her brain when I need to, but otherwise, I am there to learn and get a degree and ultimately, my RN. The teachers are enough to deal with and try to get beyond (a couple), so the last thing I am concerned with are the other students...and there are a couple that could easily get on my nerves if it meant enough to me to try to be "friends"....I study better on my own, so I am fortunate I don't have to worry about cliques....I don't go to lunch with others (class schedule doesn't really require that we're there through lunch anyway), and I just try to be friendly and helpful to everyone....I have a good social life outside of school plus 3 kids/2 grandkids!!

I hope you can make a couple of good friends and just move past what others are doing....it's really a shame when I hear this is going on at the college level....for crying out loud, there's plenty of jobs and work for everyone...if they can't be supportive of each other in school, how're they going to managed in a hospital somewhere??!?!? I don't get it....

I'm sorry to hear you are having such a bad experience.

I'd suggest ignoring the haters and focus on your success. Instead of giving in to all the negativity and backbiting, decide that you will be the different person in the situation.

I for one, always help my classmates if they need it. I try not to sound like a know it all, because I DON'T know hardly anything, but I do pass on tips that I pick up and always share what I see and offer any and all encouragment I can.

If I see a fellow student is looking a little stressed out, I ask if they need help.

I'd say focus on being the positive force in your class and others will begin to follow your example. It works for me. My classmates and

I get along just fine for the most part.

Good Luck.

In any group of nursing students (or nurses... or any group!) there's gonna be the negative ones. I know I've got em in my class, whispering and nit picking. Just keep to your studies, that's what you're there for. Networking is important so make sure you pick out the good few who want the same positive experience to hang out with. Nose in the books not other ppl's business!!! My assignment book is everything to me. If you're really worried that your teachers are being flaky, make sure you check with them ANY TIME you have a question and show them your assignment book. Other students may have the wrong info too, just go to the source. It takes awhile to get into the swing, we all have cried about the workload at some point. Some nights you won't get enough sleep and you will feel frazzled. However this is your dream and after u get ur license you'll be happy you gave it so much effort.

:yeahthat: :yeahthat:

my feelings exactly. Nursing school is a means to the end. Just get thru it the best you can. Enjoy the knowledge, let the other crud slide. You will have bad instructors, good instructors, horrid classmates and will probably make some friends that you will have for life. it can be done, hang in there!
