Lets look at this salary situation another way, by taking a poll of who is working for the least amount of money, or has been offered the least in recent history. For example, in January, 2003, as an RN,BSN, I was offered $15.35 per hour base at a "large local facility."
Who can beat that for a sucky offer?
P.S. CA houses go sell in the $200s? My brother said the houses were much higher than that when he visited a couple years back! He said they go for $800,000 and up! ??????? I am confused. Here is NY, the houses start at about $180,000 for a small old house that probably needs work, and average around $300-400,000 right now in most parts of NY. There are some cheaper areas.
TIFFANYLEE,What a shame for us !! I guess when nurse's stop caring there will be CHANGE !! I don't see that happening too soon from some of the sorry saps of nurse's that have replied " I am in nursing to help " statement I have gotten .Take care !
Please do not make rude statements such as and post, please re-read the Terms of Service It clearly states the following:
Personal Attacks
Our first priority is to the members that have come here because of the flame-free atmosphere we provide. There is a zero-tolerance policy here against personal attacks. We will not tolerate anyone insulting another individual's opinion nor name calling and will BAN repeat offenders.
this whole topic makes me want to yak.....i can't stand the fact that nurses get so little $ for such a hard freakin job. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
I could go on and on about all the reasons why we deserve more $ but what about the basic right to "enough LIVING WAGES" to pay for (good)food, (good)shelter, clothing and a vacation occasionally? How about a new bra? NURSES DESERVE A LIVING WAGE! cna, lpn, rn, bsn, whatever. we all bust a$@ and do what others wouldn't want to do in a million years. WHY? Because we LOVE it! But hey, it would be nice to have a new bra :imbar
guess this may qualify I was an LPN working agency for $21/hr finished my ADN and wnet to work for a facility starting at $18.75/hr $2.25 decrease from LPN to RN. After I get my initial year of experience under my belt I will probably start picking up some agency shifts for around $30/hr, I am going to keep my new job tho because the benefits are pretty god which in reality all figure in so the decrease proably isn't that significant because as agency I was without bene's.
\I live in NY! I am happy our rates are better. I think the lowest I have been offered is $20.00/hr. The highest seems to be around $40-45/hr. The average is around $30/hr. However, cost of living accounts for something. The cost of housing in the south is at least half.
I currently live in PA but am moving to Florida this week . I can tell you the housing is cheaper but not the utilities nor the food are cheap .
No ,,, Florida will continue to suck for wages ,

You mean the food and utilities are higher or the same in FL? I know the pay is less. Is it is like $15-18/hr? I have some family in NC and they make 20-something an hr. Good luck in FL!
eagle writes: "i love florida nurses because they do not allow oppressive wages or counterproductive leadership attitudes to influence the quality of care or compassion they express to their patients. what an elegant statement of character!"yeah, well, their "character" also keeps wages down for everyone! they are undermining the profession.
take another look at what you wrote here. i don't believe you really feel that way.
i suspect that like the rest of us, you do your best for your patients, regardless of the crap you are putting up with from your administration.
our strong ethics are exploited, and if there were no avenues of recourse besides compromising patient care, the exploitation would go on forever, while becoming increasingly more extreme.
i believe we are advancing in strength and negotiation savvy, therefore, reducing exploitation.
one of our greatest allies is public awareness - even in the form of a salary hall of shame.
do you think all the responds for low wage in nursing can be sent to jeb bush and the florida board of nurisng , it is a election year !!!george was just in florida he needs the state i say lets get old geoge to looka the salaies of nursing in florida and push old brother jeb in a better direction to help us out !!:rotfl:
very good idea!!
