I'm applying to 2 programs next year, neither of which require Chemistry! Anyone experienced this? Believe me though, I'm not complaining...I hated Chem in high school and probably still would...lol
It's funny - I avoided chemistry in high school because I was scared of it. Found out I needed it for nursing so I tried it over the summer. Bad experience...I dropped it. Last semester I took it again, ended up getting an A and loving it. I actually miss chem class now, and if I had the free time, I would totally sign up for another one.

It is really cool isn't it? I think it's the same with chemistry as it is with math (at least for me) that whether or not you enjoy and absorb it depends a lot on your teacher. It's really a gratifying experience when you get a really good one.
If you liked chemistry, you should check out particle physics. It's pretty incredible.
My community college accepted my high school chemistry (need a minimum B- in high school, and I had an A both semesters), so I didn't need to take it again.People who didn't take it in high school have to take it as a pre-req course -- you're not even allowed to apply to the nursing program if you haven't already completed the course.
So in my case, it *is* required for the nursing program, but you do *not* need to have taken it at the college level.
Ahhh...I see. Probably was hard for me to wrap my head around because I dropped out of high school 4 months into my freshman year.
I'm going to a community college, pursuing my ADN and my high school Chemistry that I took, my Junior year of high school counted because I got a C or better. We did cover all of the topics previously mentioned in A&P I, which makes me think that I'll be okay when I do take it. It was important to me to finish the classes that I *had* to take so that I could move up the list and start sooner. Since then, I found out that the start date originally quoted to me was vastly understated. I'm probably going to be taking Chem I in the fall and Chem II in the spring - it's to open doors to the possibility of transferring directly to a BSN program if the wait at community college drags on much longer.
So, the moral of the story is - even if you don't "have" to take it, I would try to take it because if you decide to switch to a BSN program, you'll need it.
I'd be afraid of a program that didn't require Chemistry... and I'd be very afraid of those nurses that came out of that program....
I'm curious why you feel this. Out of all my pre reqs, I haven't felt the Inorganic Chem and Organic Chem has really come back at all thus far. I mean I am only second semester in the program (already finished Med/Surge though and half way through Peds and OB, but if I could go back and retake any of my classes, it would be the A&P. What aspects of those classes are you talking about that you would be worried about.
**I know I am a smartorifice or sarcastic a lot, totally not being here though. I am genuinely wondering. Maybe I am missing something.

This is the way it was at my school, too. Required to get in to the nursing program, but not required for the degree. I took it anyway with the idea that I would indeed need it for the BSN.

You sound just like me! I did take it in a summer session; 4 credit hours in 6 weeks. I loved every minute of it. Loved the lecture, loved the labs, loved the instructor... it was such a positive experience, and I wish I could do it again.
I sound like such a geek!
