Why is it in this profession, that there is a lot of drama going on? It seems like every week, something new pops...It is not like a regular 8 hour job where you can just go home and kick back...
Personally I have only worked at 3 jobs outside of nursing. My hubby has worked in construction, truck driving, factories, sales and now is a manager in sales. I never had any drama in any of my other jobs and neither has he. I think part of the problem is denial we as a whole tend to deny there is a problem in the nursing community when there very clearly is a problem in our profession. Another HUGE factor, I believe, is that a good many of us that went into nursing thought we were going into an honorable profession. Unfortunately we got there to find out that for a good many others it is just another job to B and moan about. Another factor for me anyway and most other honest nurses is that as women in the majority of this profession we like to gossip some guys do too. Even though we may have the best of intentions we all tend to get drawn into it. Sometimes I just think it is a release for all the stress. I often hear that one should not go to work to find friends but the fact of the matter is that working without forming relationships makes for a very boring work environment. So we form what we want to be relationships with people we can trust only to be disappointed when the drama starts. It is a vicious cycle. It probably is most everywhere but I don't think it is to the extent that it is in nursing again most likely do to the life and death stress of it all. The stress isn't just for pts life and death but our jobs and even licenses being on the line constantly, Ya gotta admit there is a lot of stress in what we do.
