Nursing Products We'd Like To See

Updated:   Published

Our very own allnurses member moojoo had a thread requesting advice on how to deal with nurses who won't listen during shift report.

Seasoned allnurses member Emergent gave moojoo an idea on a method of getting and keeping that nurse's attention.

It's .... A NURSING PRODUCT THAT WE'D LIKE TO SEE:

Any nursing products that you'd like to see?

Automatic PPE as you enter an isolation room. Built into the door frame of an isolation room you walk one way through a film that covers you with a film that is full PPE. You walk out and the film goes away

Then I want a scanner that can tell you gastric residual instead of the nurse pulling gastric contents with a large syringe and measuring it.

I saw a way you could turn a GPS (global positioning system) into a GRS (gastric residual system):

Maybe not cartoon appropriate, but a soft opening urinal would be nice.  I always wonder why the urinals all seem to have such scratchy plastic edges! Not having the anatomy to use one myself, I can't attest personally, but I know many an edge has ripped my glove when assisting a patient, so I can't imagine that they're comfortable. I've had one patient sustain a device related injury, I'm surprised it hasn't been more.

I believe it's because all urinals are tough, have an attitude, and they look and sound like Robert DeNiro.

Don't they have great abs? DeNiro had great abs.

But, you know, in the end, we're really all just guys and want to hang out and eat...

Force contactless restraints on beds or mobile device for the really combative ones. Sort of like a magnet. The RN can loosen section by section with various degrees of force necessary dependent on the patient and doctor order. It'll feel like that spinning carnival ride that holds you to the wall.

I think you need a type of force field above the patient, that keeps him in bed but allows the nurse to push through from the outside. Something like those bassinets with openings (for the nurse's hands) that close up when the hands are removed?

I want the perfect room deodorizer that can eliminate any smell without adding much scent of its own.

Do you know what's black and white and red all over, Kitiger?

That sounds like something from a Sci-Fi movie.

Would the force field keep everything in?

The nurse still cannot make (fill in the blank) appear out of thin air

Well, some nurses can't...

One of those plug-in diffusers that emits ativan around the unit. Good for the patients, great for the nurses.
