Nursing Students Online Learning

Hello all

I am looking for a online RN to BSN program that does not have a clinical part to it , does things like this exsist. Thanks

So UOP BSN does not transfer to all master's programs, eh? Hmmm that's a concern. What will be next I wonder. Will employers/states begin to disdain the UOP BSN soon? Seems the distance programs are coming under fire recently. Wish there was a standard we could count on. I don't want to put $$$ into one of these programs for nothing.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

Thank you so much for all of the post so far! You have given me much to think about. I want to jump right into a RN to BSN program right after I finish my bridge from LVN to RN. I waited 5 years to finish my RN degree,Im not waiting another 5 for my BSN. I have almost finished all my BSN pre classes plus some Im sure I wont need. Im ready to move on!!!!!!:)

I'm looking into the FHCHS RN to BSN program. They say there is no clinical component and no travel. They require a one-hour a week on-line discussion group in addition to the regular on-line coursework. Cost is $220 per semester hour (so $660 per average course). This looks cheaper than Univ. of Phoenix, and FHC is a 'real' school in Florida. It's part of the Seventh Day Adventist healthcare system, so should be pretty stable. It is NLN accredited.

Anyone out there had experience with this program? Is it too good to be true?

Well, the same state university that supposedly rejected my friend's UoP BSN is also launching their own ADN-BSN online program. Other state unversities in California are doing the same or, already have online ADN-BSN programs in place.

So, I'm not sure if it's an attack on distance learning per se, since these universities already have their own online ADN-BSN programs. Maybe it's a competitive thing or, simply a problem with UoP's cirrculum not matching their own requirements. And, of course, I only heard this in regard to one university, not all of the many schools in California.

Sure. It's: http://www.onlinenursing.fhchs.edu

Also, I started another thread in this message board specifically about this school and already have one very positive response. See "Florida Hospital College RN-to-BSN" thread title.

If you check this out, tell me what you think. What program are you in now?

Thanks! I'm taking the co-reqs for St. Pete College RN to BSN. I still have a couple of courses left like Ethics and Statistics to take. I'm not going to kill myself so I'm taking one class at a time before I begin the program. They allow the whole program to be taken online, or in the classroom and are an excellent school, NLN approved with PHD instructors. But I work nights and there's seems to be some component of daytime activity, like the family practicum I spoke of, and some clinic work, and the assessment course you have to bring in a volunteer and do a very thorough head-to-toe assessment on them. So it sounds like way too much drama. But the cost is less than $100/hr.

University of Phoenix is just over $400.00 per hour. I checked them out the other day.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I did the BSN at UofP and had no problems with any of the schools in Illinois - they are fully NLN and CCNE accredited. I decided to do the MSN through UofP too because I could do it in one year. The masters courses are $430/hour.

Specializes in OB, M/S, HH, Medical Imaging RN.

My husband went through UOP. He did great but oohh it is sooooo expensive compared to traditional school. His student loan is $18,000. I went to a local college and paid only $6,000. BTW he went to class also. He went twice a week.
