Hi All,

First semester of nursing is almost over!!:yeah: Now I can sleep for a while. Yesterday we had 2nd semester orientation and OMG I thought about running away  after she gave us our schedules. Anyway I had been looking at these nursing made easy books and I was wondering if any of you have used them. I thought the F&E one may help and they have a med surg one. So, what do you guys thinks? Yay or nay

Wow, everyone seems to recommend them. Can someone post a link of an actual book. I googled but I'm coming up with so many.

I tried these books and personally, did not really care for them. Obviously I am alone in that boat :D I have preferred the Reviews and Rationales series myself. Quick and to the point like I wanted...plus it didn't hurt that I realized my profs have used questions on the review CD for the respective subject :p

I actually like the format of those books too. So many people have raved about the increditably easy series I thought I might try one but i actually asked my mom to get me the reviews and rationales books for my nursing classes next semester just because for me they seemed easier to read, I think it was how they are organized. I think I am definately a left-brainer :lol2:

I confess, and I'm obviously not in the majority here, but I don't find them useful at all. To me, it seems that they make the concepts so incredibly easy....that it's worthless. They simply the concepts far below the level that I need to understand them.

YMMV

Congrats on making it through your first term!!

I would have to agree of this comment. I bought the Med-Surg book to help with my Med-Surg class I was struggling with this semester after reading here and other places that people loved the books and helped them. Alas, the books were too 'basic and fundamental' for what my professor expected us to know about the material. Sadly, I haven't opened it up much after finding this out on the first test after buying the book.

On the other hand, the Pharmacology book has helped me, more as a review, with the pharmacological concepts that I should have learned in my class, but because of a less than stellar professor did not come away understanding or remembering much despite having a good grade at in the class.

So really, I guess it would really depend on what your professors want you to know for the classes and if it covers enough in a way you can understand it better. Maybe hold off buying it and see what's needed in the class and paging through it to see if it covers all or most of it?

Our school library has them. I thumbed through one, it looked interesting enough, but I never used it as a study tool. I stuck to the required reading (as that was enough to keep me busy, studying). Some of my classmates and the class before us swore by them though.

I LOVE those books! I have the Patho and F&E pocket guide ones and the full-sized EKG, Nursing Pharmacology and Critical Care Nursing ones :) They're great, imo!

I agree, although they are interesting to read and helped in some areas.

Thanks All,

I think Im going to get the F&E one since that is our 1st subject next semester and try to get the concepts over winter break. The reason I liked them is because I am visual and the pictures stick in my head a little more, but I do know I will have to also learn the concepts from my teacher.

Some people in my class have those too and like them. I will check into those. My DH will get sick of buying all these books :D

I like Straight A's in Maternal/Newborn nursing. The only problem is the disc doesn't work with MAC. I will be entering my third semester and will look at the other type of books for help. I like that they break the info down and you do not have to read out of your textbooks so much. Good luck to all.

I ordered one after I heard all the raves for them but I have to say, I don't like it at all.

I've thought about these books, and I realize that in school, they wouldn't have helped me at all. While they make concepts easier to understand, they oversimplify the material the professors want us to know in depth.

However, now that I am a nurse on the floor, dealing with multiple patients, each with many comorbities and an ever increasing amount of acuity, they help a LOT to brush me up on various topics.
