Hello everyone,

I just received my two emails from the Nurse Corps notifying me that I am a participant! I can FINALLY STOP WORRYING! It is such a relief!! The emails came at 7:37pm and 7:40pm. Good luck to the rest that are waiting on the participant email.

For those that have received the participant email, consider joining the Nurse Corps 2015 Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1602172633367445/

To break it down for those who haven't been following or for people who want to apply in the future:

-I'm in an accelerated BSN program, will graduate May 2016

-EFC was low 001000s

-Received credit check on July 29th

-Received finalist email on August 4th, 5:23pm

-Submitted required documents on August 7th.

-Received counter signature from Lisa on August 27th, 10:53am

-Received 2 participant emails on Sept 3rd, 7:37pm and 7:40pm

Hope this helps!

Congratulations to everyone! I have been following this thread back and forth since I received email. I literally cried... read the email 5 times then cried again, jumped up with joy and then called my mom screaming so happy. She could barely understand me.

GPA 3.4

Accelerated ADN (I hold a bachelors degree)

EFC 0

Ohio

4/25 submitted application

8/4 HRSA acceptance email

8/31 Participant email

It's been a little stressful because my school isn't familiar with what to do and how to submit the itemized invoice. If you have any advice or insight please let me know. Again.. Congratulations to everyone!

congrats!

Hi all! Congrats to all of you! I was just wondering if any of you knew what increased your chances of receiving the scholarship? I've heard a mixture of things. A rep told me full time family nurse practitioner students received the awards above anyone else? Just wondering what everyone's views are! Also, can you apply for the scholarship and loan repayment in the same year? Thanks! :)

Hello,

In the Nurse Corps PDF guidelines it states that first preference is for people with an EFC between $0 and $5158 who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a diploma, undergraduate or approved graduate nurse practitioner program as full time students.

While I think EFC is important, it wasn't everything. I was initially worried bc I thought my EFC was going to be 000000 but it was in the low 001000s after I completed FAFSA. I think the most important aspect of your application is your essays. You can have 2 people with the same stats but the way you convey yourself in your essays can make or break you. You have to remember that the reviewers are reading hundreds of essays a day. You have to capture your reader within the first couple of sentences to make them want to read more.

I'm not sure about your last question. I am wondering the same thing too. I've been slammed with nursing school homework lately...I will eventually get around to asking.

.

Congratulations, Mocapoca!!!

I received my participant email at the same time! This is such a blessing.

Thank you for sharing the Facebook link.

You're welcome! Congratulations to you too! (:

Congrats I was waiting for you to get yours. U deserve it!

Thank you so much. That means a lot, especially since you barely know me. I just wanted to share with you not to give up. I applied in December 2014 for the SR. COSTEP program under USPHS and was totally bummed when I received a rejection letter. I was down for about 2 weeks but decided to pick myself up again and just try for another scholarship. Going in, I didn't have much confidence because for one, my EFC was not 000000 and I knew this was highly competitive. But things just work out in weird ways. There is something greater waiting for you. I wish you well in your nursing career Tellio015!

I also received my participant e-mail this afternoon … What a quick turnaround! No complaints though. Congratulations to everyone so far!

You're welcome. You were helpful for all of us and I appreciated it. Sadly I might of given up. Apart of me is still hopeful but I'm also looking into another route. Without this scholarship I can't start school this month so maybe another program at a masters level will be my next move. For now I'm waiting for the final decision so I can continue. But all the best to you and everyone else who received it. Make sure u guys remember how much it is a blessing and make the best out of it! Good luck !

I am with you on this! I was almost certain that I wasn't going to get this scholarship, but I knew that I would be upset with myself if I didn't try! When I first started the application, I didn't think my EFC was competitive at $1165, but I decided to write essays that would make up for it.

I do not have much in the way of volunteer work, I had only worked as a CNA for about a year at that point, and I felt like I didn't have any direction.

I saved this as the last scholarship, and was sick of applying for them. In fact, I never heard back from any of the others. But, I worked really hard on my essays and spent about two months perfecting them (mixed in with procrastination), trying to really convey my desire to be a nurse and my journey to this point.

Basically, even if any future applicants are looking through this, make sure you give it a try and give it everything you can, you might just be pleasantly surprised with it! Everyone is awesome, it is just a matter of conveying that clearly to the person evaluating your application!

Congratulations to everyone who has been awarded so far! I'll be sending my best wishes for those of you who are still waiting. And, best of luck to anyone applying in the future! If anyone has questions about applying that cannot be found anywhere else including the forums and their help line, send me a message and I'll see if I can help you!

I got my participant email. The waiting is finally over. Turned everything into my financial aid office and I will be staying on top of them to make sure everything gets done properly. Good luck everyone and Congratulations to the participants!
