Well, all finalists have to have a credit check, but it's only been two weeks since HRSA started checking credit. There's still time.

Sometimes credit checks don't appear on all of your reports, and sometimes they don't appear at all.

I guess we just have to keep hope alive. Is it true that they check credit based on ranking? & that EFC and GPA is the least? I think

I read a post where someone said that...strong essays, resume, and recommendation goes a long way as well...? So is it safe to say that the "greatest financial need" is a bit cliche?

Potential One,

I posted a link to this year's HRSA review guidelines for NURSE Corps applicants. Applicants are scored and then ranked on a scale of 1 to 5.

The highest possible score is 100 points:

10 points GPA

15 points Essay 1

15 points Essay 2

15 points Essay 3

10 points Letter of Rec 1

10 points Letter of Rec 2

25 points Resume

I don't know how they are ranked. Maybe they are ranked by EFC. But, EFC and financial need are not included in the scoring criteria.

Highest scored and ranked applicants are notified first, since remaining awards are offered to the next rank of applicants. I think it makes sense that credit checks are made by rank, since notifications are made by rank. It would be pointless to check someone's credit if they are not being considered for the award.

BUT, applicants can share the same score and rank, meaning that HRSA has to check credit down a list of applicants. It's still very early.

They finished scoring and ranking on July 15.

Wow thanks MissPatricia for shedding some light. Very detailed, I know their job isn't easy.

I talked to a rep that said they rank you in each funding preference. 1 to however many applicants there are. They start with the highest ranked group in the first funding preference and run a credit check. From there they send out emails and you need to accept the award within a certain amount of time. people don't accept for a number of reasons. once they go through that group they move on to the next group until their award funding has been exhausted.

I got an email from HRSA this morning and got really excited.

It was offering a webinar on managing multiple chronic conditions. HRSA shouldn't be allowed to send out non-scholarship/loan repayment emails between July 20th and August 10th. Just sayin'.

 god I would die....They really should hold off all emails during this time

Thanks for verifying this, Justine!

Any info n is good info I guess lol. Helps my nerves

Now that I scrolled through the forum, we can agree that the upcoming 2016 applicants will definitely find this thread very informative and useful. We asked so many questions to one another it really demostrasted the type of nurses we will all be!! I'm sure there are plenty of people still reading this thread without posting but it's ok. We won't bite.

I am an MSN NP applicant and also had my credit checked as a hard inquiry into Equifax on July 29th according to creditkarma. Hope this is a good sign and looking forward to news this week!!!

I just started a Master's Entry program (FNP track) in June. My credit was checked on 7/29, but I'll let you know that I had to download my free annual credit report in order to see it. So far, Credit Karma has not updated since 7/24 and I've not received an email about a change to my report. So don't feel dejected if you haven't noticed anything on Credit Karma.
