  1. I just started a Master's Entry program (FNP track) in June. My credit was checked on 7/29, but I'll let you know that I had to download my free annual credit report in order to see it. So far, Credit Karma has not updated since 7/24 and I've not received an email about a change to my report. So don't feel dejected if you haven't noticed anything on Credit Karma.
  2. Oh god, I was looking through last year's thread and it seems that there is a separate review process for applicants who submitted after the priority deadline. I don't know if any of you are in the same boat.
  3. Hey all, I've been a little confused about whether this thread applies to the Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty applicants. I applied to the FNP Pre-specialty entry track a few days after the priority deadline (November 11th). Does anyone know whether any pre-specialty entry applicants have heard back? Or anyone would applied after the November 1st deadline? Thanks!
  4. I would recommend flying into Bradley (the airport in Hartford) and taking the Connecticut Limo down to Orange or New Haven. I don't remember how much the shuttle costs, but it's affordable (maybe about $40). Second to that, I'd fly into JFK or Laguardia and take Metro North into Connecticut. I'm also trying to decide if it's worth it financially to go in person. Leaning toward the Skype interview
  5. I've only applied to two programs so far, but I've been impressed by Yale's proactive, encouraging emails. It seems that they're written very thoughtfully by a real person. I went to Yale as an undergraduate and really loved New Haven. It certainly takes some adjustment period if you're not coming from an urban area in which most residents are living below the poverty line. The contrast between Yale's opulence and New Haven's poverty is hard to swallow sometimes. That said, woohoo Yale School of Nursing!
  6. Just emailed to follow up and they got back to me in less than a minute (I'm impressed): "According to my records, you have everything you need. Those emails are sent automatically, so I don’t know why you haven’t received them." I'm not super worried.
  7. chen205, I'm in the same boat. I'm assuming they're just getting to different applications at different times, but who knows. The admissions team has actually been quite responsive to email inquiries, so if we're really paranoid, we could check in via email.
  8. My paranoia continues...
  9. Ruh roh. My status shows a red circle with a white exclamation point in the center... Also, in reading some of the threads from past years, it seems that applicants could see in their applications whether their GRE scores were received. My application doesn't have a box or anything that specifies receipt, it just had a place for me to input my test date and registration number. Does anyone else see anything different?
  10. Hello! I'm currently taking the prerequisites for Masters Entry Programs to become an FNP or CNM. I'm working as a personal attendant for a quadriplegic woman, and also as a home health care coordinator for a man recovering from cancer treatment. I'm getting some awesome exposure, but I would really like to see some NPs in action in a clinical setting. Since I don't know any NPs, I'm not sure how to go about finding one to shadow. Do you have any advice? How did you find shadowing opportunities?
  11. Also, my first priority is definitely grades. I had a 3.42 in Architecture from Yale undergrad, but I'm confident I can increase the overall GPA with the pre-req grades -- I feel much more focused and motivated now that I have a goal/career vision.
  12. Thanks for the advice! hi616 -- I did indeed mean CNA. evolvingrn -- do you have any advice regarding CNA programs? I see a lot that are pretty pricey (which I would of course save up for if it came down to it), but I'd like to find something cost-effective. Do you recommend this mostly for the exposure and learning purposes, or is it something that is pretty standard for pre-students to do before applying to masters programs? Thanks again.
  13. Hello! I am currently taking pre reqs for ABSN or Masters entry programs. It should take me about a year to complete the classes and I plan to apply to programs in the fall of 2014. I am wondering if anyone has advice on the type of relevant experience that helps me get a better understanding of the field AND will help strengthen my application. I'm thinking of becoming an FNP/CNM. Here is what I'm currently doing while taking classes: -Working as a home health aide/personal attendant for a quadriplegic woman (spinal cord injury). She and her current attendants are training me and the role includes: getting her in/out of bed and into a wheel chair, bathing, meal prep and feeding, wound care, bowel and bladder care, etc -Volunteering for the San Francisco Hospital Volunteer Doula Program. I've already been trained as a doula and am still completing the hospital orientation. -Shadowing NPs, RNs, and midwives Do you think this is adequate experience? Do you think it's necessary to pursue something like CRNA certification? I'd appreciate any advice.
  14. Hello! I am a 25-year-old career-changer (it's funny to pretend that I've even had a career at this point) beginning prerequisite courses for direct entry BSN to MSN programs. I studied Architecture as an undergrad at Yale, and have worked in the tech world for the past few years. I'm still trying to figure out what specialty is the best fit for me, but right now I'm leaning toward a CNM/FNP dual focus, though there aren't too many of those programs out there. Currently, I am volunteering as a birth doula with the San Francisco General Hospital Volunteer Doula Program and am working as a "personal attendant" for a quadraplegic woman -- I don't know if this is the proper title. Maybe home health aide? I have no formal training or certification as a home health aide, but the woman prefers to train her own attendants. I'm also coordinating birth doula trainings for the woman who taught my training (this isn't a medical role, obviously) My questions are as follows: in addition to the current positions I described above, would it be wise for me to pursue some sort of certification (CNA, Home Health Aide, Hospital Aide, etc) before nursing school so I can get my proverbial foot in the door of the medical world? I've heard that getting an RN or NP position straight out of school is challenging, and I'm worried that I'll need to have had some sort of experience in a medical setting. What are your thoughts and/or experiences?
