Nursing Conference

Hi everyone!

I am happy to say that I have been chosen to go on an all-expenses paid trip to Florida, for the Annual Psychiatric Nurse's Conference, in Lake Buena Vista Florida, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort! I was so happy my manager vouched for me to her bosses and her boss's bosses! It is October 28-31st this year 2015. I will be staying Oct 27th through Novemner 1st.

Do any of you have experience with going to conferences? What do I need to know ahead of time? What should I bring? I want to make sure I get everything I can out of this awesome opportunity!

Maybe bring some things to take notes! Think of any questions you may have that you can ask about or any concerns you would like to share.

Sounds like a great opportunity.

Good for you! Hope you enjoy your time!

Sounds like an awesome opportunity. I can't attest to nursing conferences specifically, but conferences tend to be a great place for networking. Although you may be employed already, it's good to have contact with other individuals in your field. Perhaps there is something that they do at their facility that could be implemented at your facility and improve efficiency or pt outcomes!

Based on the selected setting, you will need a bathing suit and sunscreen.

I've attended three NTI Critical Care conferences, but my presence there was specifically aimed at working the Allnurses.com booth. My first conference was in Orlando, not too far from where yours will take place.

Take a binder, paper, laptop and other tools that will help you take notes during your various courses and lectures. In addition, I rented a car because I wanted to see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. On the last day of my trip I drove to Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach and Satellite Beach (a.k.a. the Space Coast).

In addition, take an umbrella. Even though the outdoor temperatures will be hot, you might receive a spontaneous rain storm (yes, even at 80 degrees).

Not going to answer on what you should take, but on what you should bring back. Focus on what you can bring back to your co-workers in terms of content. Plan on doing a presentation of some sort on the new stuff you learned. Also, bring back conference goodies. Pens, bags, gadgets for you to share with the crew.

Take a sweater or jacket. In spite of warm Florida weather those conference rooms can be cold.
