Nursing Clinicals

I'm going to start a BSN program this fall, and I'm a little confused about something... My school states (on the online schedule of classes) that my Fundamentals of Nursing class is one day a week from 1-4pm but it's its a 6 credit class... That doesn't add up... have you exp this?

All schools are different, but I just want an idea..

How many days and hours a week did you spend doing clinicals for your Fundamentals class?

Are fundamentals clinicals usually held in a LTC?

Did the hours/days change or did they stay the same throughout the semester?

Any other info you have about fundamentals clinicals would be greatly appreciated a well.

Thank you,

Your 6 credit hours are broken up between lecture, lab, and clinical. In my BSN program in SC, Fundamentals is a 5 credit hour class... 2 hours devoted to lecture, 1 for lab, and 2 credit hours for clinical.... Our lecture was only 1 day a week. Our clinical day was one day a week from 7-130 at a ltc facility. ... I hope this helps and I didn't confuse you any further...

basically the same for me, there is alot of work outside of class.

(I have my September 2012 schedule right in front of me)

My Fundamentals class:

- Three days of lecture - the hours and days are broken up, but mostly its either a 6-7 hour lecture or 3-4 hour lecture, with other stuff thrown in. So, basically I'm in school all day pretty much from 8-3 p.m.

- One day of lab - for 5 hours

- One day of clinical - doesn't start until late September, as far as I know, its at my hospital

Here's how my 5 credit hour Fundamentals class breaks down:

Lecture: 3 hours of clock time = 3 credit hours

Lab: 2 hours clock time = 1 credit hour

Clinical: 3 hours clock time = 1 credit hour

But I am in an accelerated program, so everything doubles up. So for my 8-week term, it means 2 days a week of the lecture, 1 day a week of lab that is 4 hours long, and one day with a 6-hour clinical. And that is just fundamentals. I also will have Patho and Assessment I (with lab) during that term.

My first semester is 9 credit hours and it looks like I'll be in class, lab or clinicals about 30-35 hours per week. It certainly isn't like the regular pre reqs.

I'm taking 9 credits and I have 5 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab, and 10 hours of clinicals. Not quite sure how they figure the breakdown of credits.

my fundamentals (which I start in a few weeks) is 13 credit hours, in 11 weeks.

Monday we have lecture from 830-5 or something

Wednesday we are in lab, 830-12ish

and one day a week (maybe two, we dont have our def, schedule yet) is clinicals at a nursing home. Clinicals are 12 hours, but again, not sure how many days a week we're there. Good luck!
