I had decided mine before I even applied to nursing school but was a little discouraged during nursing school when my OB clinical rotation wasn't what I expected. I took a step back from OB for a while and did some soul searching and soon realized that OB is where I'm meant to be. I start my L&D job next week!
That's awesome, congrats!! good luckí ½í±í ¼í¿»

I still haven't even though I have always been passionate about OB/GYN nursing haha. I started in ICU, went to OR, and am now hopefully moving to mother/baby soon.

I wanted to work in the OR, but I could only get a job in Mother/Baby as a new grad. I have been stuck in this specialty 6 years, because they want you to have experience to be hired for other specialties, so fustrating!

I 'KNEW' going into nursing school that I wanted to graduate and go into surgical ICU and then CRNA school after a few years. I got three weeks into my OB rotation and realized this was truly where I was meant to be. 11.5 years later, still in the right place. I've even tried to leave a few times for different specialties or careers...I always come back. Now I'm done leaving and driving forward with passion and purpose.
tl:dr: Gain as much exposure as you can during school, rather than going in guns blazing for a certain area after graduation.
That sounds like a tough situation. Do they ever offer OR RN residencies for experienced nurses? I know hospitals near me do this several times a year.

I also want to be an O.R nurse. I do hear so many people say it's hard to get into. I wouldn't mind mother/baby though.
They do this at my facility and call it a Transitional position. Although, I am going to mother/baby from OR as a transitional nurse but it will not align with one of the residency groups.
