What a nice story. Just goes to show you a nurse never stops being a nurse no matter where they are, when they see someone in need the training kicks in. I hope he gets to thank her in person.

I hope she comes forward. I wouldn't normally recommend that course of action. But I really think that she's safe to do so. Kudos to her for having the courage to do what must be done. And kudos to the officer who chose to site her in his report as an unidentified female.
Man it's great to see Mr. Miles stating that he's appreciative of her intervention. All too often we are encouraged to seek counsel and damages instead of saying thank you.

Indeed.
When I came across this story I thought it would be nice to post on AN. It does make you feel good. I realized that many times the posts we discuss are very charged emotionally in some way or another. I will try to post these kind of stories from time to time so that we can be reminded that as nurses we do make a difference even though we may argue a bit here on AN.

Thanks for sharing! I'm all for hearing an uplifting news story, and even more so when a nurse is involved.
Some months back I cared for this kid (well, young man--college aged) whose car was T-boned at high speeds by a vehicle much bigger than his. His neck was severely injured; according to the dr. who saw him, he was an inch away from internal decapitation. What saved him? A good Samaritan got into his car and held C-spines until EMS arrived. I'm not sure if she was a nurse or not, but I've wondered.

Great story! I'm not sure I even know how to apply a tourniquet "properly" in that situation. I would have probably just used pressure with my hand and applying the weight of my whole body on that hand. I know for certain I would have never thought to use a stick to tighten it. I am impressed! This nurse Debbie is a genius!
ETA: I had a patient whose femoral artery was destroyed in an accident. It was a fight to save the patient, but also a fight to save the leg for a couple weeks. We were not sure they leg was going to make it. This guy is really lucky.
Oh look! She's been found! Two people involved
