Today, there is an article posted on how 22,000 nurses are taking a stand against mandatory vaccination. These nurses are willing to lose their jobs to stand up for their Pro-choice rights. NAMV was founded when mandatory vaccines were introduced in the workplace, and though it is not pro-vaccine OR anti-vaccine, it is certainly pro-CHOICE. NAMV members believe that all people should have the right to choose and refuse medical treatment, including nurses and healthcare workers.
All that means is most of us that don't believe in the flu shot are being forced to get it because we have bills to pay so we can keep a roof over our head! Very few people in this country can afford to be without a job these days and the forced flu vaccination is sweeping the country so chances are the rest of you will be facing this soon, just like hourly rounding and bedside report, although this can actually hurt you! Someone quoted rates of 38 to 50 some percent were vaccinated before that tells you that many people did not want or believe in the flu shot! Make it a condition of employment and then the rate is over 90%. The people that get injured will just be pushed out and forgotten, acceptable casualties to force flu shots on everybody, keep the CDC happy and give a big payoff to Big Pharma!
I am not going to decide what a Nurse should allow to be put in her or his body as I do not know medical history or anything about each Nurse. I choose to be vaccinated to not bring anything back to my family and to protect my patients. Each individual Nurse has to make a decision as to what their standards are.
I appreciate your open mindedness, but be aware the flu shot is not very effective at best maybe 50-60% at worst 20% or less, so don't falsely believe that if you get the flu shot you can prevent bringing the flu back to your family. You can still get the flu and you can still pass it on, especially when the efficacy rate is 20%!
I'm amazed at all the other judgemental people out there that think we should be forced to get the flu shot or lose our jobs when it isn't even effective! Stupid brainwashed people!
As someone else said the push for mandatory vaccination is about money, the govt imposing a penalty on hospitals for less than 90%. It has nothing to do with us or our patients, it is about the all mighty dollar!
And just because you can get guillaine barre without getting the flu shot, that does not discount the fact that it is a side effect of the flu shot. If it happens to you, then you had better hope it is a mild case and temporary or you will lose your job and most likely your house and be lucky if you don't end up paralyzed permanently in a nursing home! If it happens you had better find a lawyer quick to file a complaint with the govt vaccine board and if you are lucky you might get $100,000 pretty stingy award for a lifelong disability if you ask me! Pretty hard to pay your bills and your mortgage with that small of an amount! People wake up and stop blindly believing everything you are told! You are smart enough to be a nurse, to think critically and be open minded ie weigh the evidence and the risks. Don't blindly believe everything you are told!
I've seen several patients with GB up close and personal and like the evidence is showing most were over 50, one was in her 30's. It is not a pretty sight. The youngest recovered her ability to walk normally. The other walked but not well and was permanently affected. The last one was a 70 year old fit and active senior who took his motorcycle all over the country until he made the mistake of getting the flu shot. He became completely paralyzed except lucky for him he could still breathe without a ventilator, not everyone is so lucky. One of the staff kept in touch with him he was in a nursing home for a year before he recovered enough to go home, but was depressed and eventually killed himself. Very sad situation.
Frankly common sense no one in their right mind would take a vaccine knowing it could paralyze them! But we are told the risk is so minor just get it ie it won't be you but some other poor unlucky soul and according to some of you that are so greedy for a job you would be happy to walk right over that person for their job! This in reply to the OP that said don't get the flu shot and get fired, more jobs for the rest of us. Pretty cold hearted person if you ask me and you call yourself a nurse! Funny how compassion is reserved only for the patients and not extended for your fellow nurses. Sad! Just Sad! No wonder the hospitals run roughshod over our rights when nurses won't stick together!

Previous comment I mentioned pfizer, I meant Merck for Vioxx scandal. Its a sad but true event of big pharma and a good read if you're interested. Pfizer was Mercks competition for the COX II market.

Well, it is generally my experience that the likelihood of a nurse to refuse a vaccine is inversely related to their level of real medical knowledge. Some people willfully suppress the medical knowledge that is available to them for a variety of reasons, holding onto preconceptions they brought with them when they applied to nursing school.
Arguing with an anti-vaxxer is like arguing with a religious cultist or a political partisan. Their ego is invested in their opinion. Don't waste your breath.
To quote Barney Frank, former Representative from MA, "To argue with some people does as much good as arguing with the dining room table." He was speaking in the political realm, but his statement certainly does apply to those who refuse vaccinations.
I haven't had a flu shot since the O.J trial. A decision that was just for my own reasons (I had flu shots 3 yrs in a row with major reactions). I had within hours, diarrhea, vomiting, fever the whole nine yards (no pun intended). So I decided to take other precautionary measures (I love bleach and ammonia).
This year a friend who works with healthcare providers in a cath lab, declined her shot. She wears a mask. Her husband and son got sick with the flu. They are selective on vaccines. when I helped her out by watching her son, which included him coughing many times in my face, I became sick within 24 hrs.
This went straight to my lungs (I have asthma) and I've been sick with pneumonia for over 3 weeks. Let me tell you, I have been sick with vaccines with poop and vomit flying out of both ends and now I've experienced my lung sounds louder than Snap, Crackle and Pop in a bowl of milk! That is terrifying and I'm seriously considering flu/pneumonococcal from here on out.
I also make sure my 85 yr old mother gets hers, regardless.
This is and should be a personal choice... Just make sure it doesn't cost you (or come close) your life.
I am shocked at how many people have been brainwashed into thinking that the flu shot is actually a good thing! It's sad how blind we can become and just believe everything we are told. I bet everyone who thinks the flu shot is a wonderful thing also believes there is no cure for diabetes. I guess I'm one of the few that actually researches what these vaccines are and how toxic they are and how they not everything we are told they are cracked up to be. For one, I have to get my flu shot every year not just as a nurse but because I'm military. And while I've never gotten the flu from it (because everybody debunks that) I do know that as my diet has become more pure and plant based, the more sensitive I become to these wretched shots. Shortly after I get my flu shot I feel very sick, I get flushed and I have a giant headache...hmm, could it from the aluminum or the mercury running through my veins? Theres a reason why kids get more more sick and more reactions from shots...they get tons of them and they are filed with toxic junk! Combine that with a poor standard american diet which leads to poor gut bacteria and BAM...you have increased illness.
And everybody forgets that just because you have the flu shot does not mean you won't get it. So everyone who is saying that having the flu shot is like this mighty protector against diseases is a fool. I know more people who have had the flu that got the shot than not. Obviously it's because their flu vaccine was for protection against a different strain....blah blah we all already know that. So really, the flu shot is basically useless.
Another thing to think about is if you actually believe everything the government tells you. If you do, you're very foolish. There are so many politics involved with healthcare related issues it's unreal and unfathomable unless you are deeply involved with whats going on. To the point where you have to wonder if you can believe anything the government says. And even if they did at one point believe the flu vaccine was indeed life saving and preventative and then realized it was poison to our bodies...do you really think they would admit it? Probably not. I hate the flu shot, I hate getting it, I never promote it and if I had a bigger role in the Air Force I'd fight for not having to get it.

So the incert that comes packaged in the flu shot is a myth? Which states you CAN get flu symptoms. Education is so wonderful!
