I agree with many of his points actually. However, I will take issue with the intellect bloviation. Intellect need not have to relate to choice of career. Unless there exists some literature that states physicians are intellectually superior, I will call BS on his assumption. I will agree that physicians will typically have superior education in science and actual medicine.

I also did not get to read the link first hand but I got the jist of it from the comments.

The one thing you all should know about the "esteemed" Dr. Ablow....is that yes, he is a psychiatrist...and yes, he does do expert witness testimony in criminal cases....BUT the majority of his income over the past decade has been derived from WRITING CRIMINAL PSYCH NOVELS....think Criminal Minds in book form only not as good:D

Now, writing is its own art form and it does take talent to write sucessfully, but...I thought his whole point was that HE went to MEDICAL SCHOOL to become a .....wait for it....trumpets....fanfare....DOCTOR!!!!!!

Me thinks the good doctor is "selling out"?

I have read most of his books...in my defense, I am a voracious reader and will read almost anything....and I USED to be a fan of his...NO MORE!!!

Just saying....:twocents:

I'll jump in :) and say I think that's exactly what that person meant by "true journalism doesn't exist anymore". And to me, they're ALL guilty of it now, they're all selling out - real reporting, real presentation has all but gone out the window in favor of sexed-up (literally and figuratively) CRAP that gets passed off as "news". Maybe it's not slant per se, but it surely ain't good journalism.

(On a side note, I wonder who'll be the first to complain about my irregular and completely deliberate grammatical choice...)

:yeah: Exactly.

After reading the article, I find that, surprisingly, I'm not overly angered by it. All it does is show poorly on his character and true intellect. He may have a high IQ, but intellect encompasses not only intelligence, but also understanding and humanity. He is just another arrogant doctor who thinks he is God's gift to mankind (please make no mistake, I do not mean to imply all doctors are like this), and has let his ego get in the way of his intelligence.

No wonder his short lived TV show went defunct so quickly....

Doesn't this doctor know we can't all be Chiefs? Ya gotta have some Indians too.

I am doubting that he's in a medical-psych setting or else he'd know that nurses are invaluable. If he's any kind of doctor like the ones I used to work with at the state institution I used to work at, he only comes in for admissions and to do team twice a week and his conception of a nurse is one that djust involves writing careplans and calling him to get orders for prn ativan.

Boooo.

I've seen lot of doctors who doesnt even see their patients and write their progress notes or come to patient's room just to say hello therefore patients rather talk to nurses about their problems. Yeah I rather be a nurse.. :nurse:

I couldn't find any link to the original article.

I'm not sure if there was a reason the link went missing, but I did some googling and found the original article here:
