OP, this statement I believe is erroneous. "in reality most nurses are mean shrews and make the work environment a nightmare." While SOME nurses may be bullies, and perhaps a lot of those with whom you work, but not most nurses. There are a lot of us out there, and many if not most are a long ways from being a bully.
I hope people considering nursing who may be reading these numerous threads lately realize they are getting a distorted view, not in terms of whether or not there is merit to any of the angry diatribes, but more a distortion in their prevalence.
From what I've seen, the most helpful use of time posting here is to present your current difficulty with as much detail as you can, respecting confidentiality, maybe with what you've tried that didn't work. Realizing the tone of some replies will seem abrupt, or rude you'll usually get some great advice, too.
Just the other day I read a most thoughtful and heartfelt response to a thread containing mostly undifferentiated name-calling. I'm sure it didn't faze the author but it certainly was of benefit to some of the readers, including me.
My comment may mean absolutely nothing because Im not a nurse....and maybe I shouldnt be posting but I am. Never let it be said I played by all the rules.
Anyway.... Ive said before but here it goes again. Ive spent a LOT of time in the hospital..a LOT. Ive had over 30 major surgeries and I sport the scars and pain and titanium to prove it. I gotta say, my experience with Nurses has not been one where I could say that ALL nurses eat their young, or are mean nasty shrews. Quite the opposite. I spent the better part of 2 months inpatient one time and did not at any point come across a nasty nurse. Ive encountered some of the nicest most caring sometimes harsh when needed Nurses ever.
Ive had both Male and Female nurses sit with me for long periods of time consoling me or helping me or just plain educating me in some form or another.
ONE Nurse...she was a DON filling in night shift. She was a first class b!t@h unequaled. But seriously...one out of ALL those others does not qualify as NETY.

As the title implies please post your feedback and experiences. I recently responded to another thread with the following in this new thread allows the continuation of what I like To call nursing's dirty little secret.
I am glad that you posted what you did because in reality most nurses are mean shrews and make the work environment a nightmare. Nurses may be nice and in many cases not so nice to patients but between each other they eat their own. You see nurses break into clicks just like you would in school they go from racial divides to bullies. I have seen entire nursing floors that are entirely African-American wear whites are not welcomed I have seen other businesses completely ran by Filipinos where anyone who is not one of them is not welcomed usually at the fault of a manager bullies can be seen right from nursing school and this includes faculty. I have held many different positions outside of nursing in my life and have never encountered so many bullies as I have in the profession of nursing it is something that is kept under the carpet and should be exposed and talked about. Not all nurses are angels in fact many are far from it.
I do agree with some people from another post that you should not give up a profession you already started and you should continue without quitting at any point working towards a masters degree and your life will change dramatically and nursing does offer an enormous amount of avenues to work in. it is actually one of the most preferred careers to have in the next few decades. Unfortunately there's a lot of garbage and I mean places and people to weed through before you find what is best for you. In conclusion most nurses are not angels.
